Hi,

I'm in Frisco, TX (northern Dallas burb) and would like to experience good espresso in the Dallas area. I came across a couple of disturbing threads that indicated that Dallas has NO good coffee shops. The thought of this is somewhat depressing, so I'm hoping someone can cheer things up by recommending a coffee shop for me. Thanks.

Good luck with that....I've never found one and have lived in DFW for years.

This post mentions a couple that I've not tried.

Dallas is pretty much a wasteland with regards to coffee.

We visited White Rock Coffee yesterday. The espresso had some interesting fruity tones and more character than what I get at Starbucks, but the finish seemed too bitter.

I bought a pound of their espresso blend and I believe I pulled a slightly better shot than they did (after 3 or 4 throw aways). I'm a noob, so infer what you may.

I would suggest you look for a coffeehouse near one of the schools in Dallas. Perhaps SMU? It's hard to pull an all-nighter study session without good coffee.

No, it's hard to study without coffee, period. That is to say, without caffeine -- no one ever said it had to be GOOD coffee.

I got through law school on No-Doz, because there was no decent coffee at the time in Ithaca. This was a shock to me, arriving fresh from all the coffee shops in Berkeley. I've told Kevin Cuddeback, that if Gimme! had been around then, I would have spent all my tuition money on his coffee.

Good luck! Lived in the Dallas area (near Frisco) for many years and never found a decent roaster. At one time, there were a few 'independents' will decent offerings but they are gone or have gone mediocre. So, ended up mail ordering, usually from roasters a shipping day or two away for convience. Texas Coffee Traders in Austin is okay [Fredo for espresso]- just called them in the am and they shipped the same day. Their web site is 'interesting?', and occasionally they have a few good regionals. Also, The Roasterie in Kansas City, and PT's Coffee in Topeka. Understand your disappointment- hard to believe Dallas could be so deficient.

I've been to White Rock Coffee a few times and I think it's a pretty good shop. I've had good americanos and cappuccinos from there. I think there are a couple of better shops in Austin but I was happy with the product I received at White Rock. I haven't been in about a year though.

It's not exactly conveniently located to Frisco though!
