Rancilio Silvia problems

I have a Rancilio Silvia that is going on 18 years old. And she has worked faithfully for all of those years. I once had to replace the brew thermostat and that's been about it. Until recently. The boiler stopped working and I diagnosed the problem and determined that the other thermostat - the one ...

Silvia is failing me - after 11 years

Indeed it does feel like one of those little victories. Not just for me but for making the choice of buying such a quality piece in the first place. 11 years of daily use and it still makes a good cup of espresso. Yes, I know there are machines with more consistently good pulls but I won't quibble. ...

Silvia is failing me - after 11 years

HI all, I just wanted to post an update to thank all of you for your guidance and advice. I did in fact replace the thermostat - and voila, I'm back in business. Working as good as the day it was born... almost. Lovely

Silvia is failing me - after 11 years

Sorry for revisiting this - but I did order the thermostat and installed it... but after doing it realized that I have the red marking on the left side if facing it from the front of the machine. The old one did not have a red marking. But in the picture, the red mark appears to be on the right

Silvia is failing me - after 11 years

I just want to say you all rock. Fuzzy math and all.... Indeed I am always looking to keep things going for as long as they can - if for no other reason than to prevent adding to the trash heap of modern history. I am going to try and fix it myself - but I don't have

Silvia is failing me - after 11 years

Thanks for the responses. I have indeed done the math and can certainly concede that Silvia owes me nothing after 11 years. But if there is a reasonably quick and simple fix for it then I want to rescue it. It's the same reason we chose a Dualit toaster to sit near it. It's more than paid for itself...

Silvia is failing me - after 11 years

Hey folks, I live in Ann Arbor and my wife and I have used our Rancilio Silvia for nigh on 11 years now. It's been ever faithful. But today is a sad day. I tried to make an espresso and got lukewarm water through the grinds. Not much pressure either. I am dumbfounded. It showed no signs of

Microfoam angst with Rancilio Silvia

Hello fine people, I've been using the same Rancilio Silvia for well over 12 years. I have no problem pulling very decent espressos with nice crema. As for the milk - well I guess it depends on the day.... and this is so frustrating. One day, I'll get great microfoam - and the following day, using t...

Roasters in Michigan

I agree, Comet is a wonderful addition to Ann Arbor - and has raised the bar for a good espresso in town. I must say, though, that I have had some very good results from Roos Roast. I used to buy Ionia beans in Windsor, ON - and it was always pretty good, but with Roos' Espresso blend or his
