Baratza Sette 270W - Is it a good choice for consistent weight repetition?

My first one died after five months. In fact, darnit, I forgot to ship it back last week. Argh. I asked them to shim the replacement, because the first one was pegged when dialed in for espresso. The new one was about right mid-range; that will drift in time. Much better. I find the repetition to

CoffeeCon 2017

Anyone interested in volunteering to demo home-roasting to the public? If so, more info and a brief sign-up form (link below). We'll move to group discussion and planning (not much to it, but I know there'll be questions) once I get a feel for participation level. Soliciting in a couple other forums...

Obtained an Olympia Cremina

Thanks to Vlad and others for advice. I'm finally making the jump to espresso, so I might be more active in these parts. The unit will be used at work for the foreseeable future. I'll be getting the pressure kit from Naked (provided the back-orders turn around soon). Question: Is it sane to just cre...

Chicago / Milwaukee HB Meetup 2017 February or March

It was a good time indeed. I'm more optimistic about getting into Espresso -- a decision I've long been putting off -- based on discussion of the Cremina. Thanks to everyone. Pleased to meet some fine folks, and Jim's generous hospitality has only seasoned with years

CoffeeCon 2015: call for home roasters

Last call (need to ensure adequate power for everyone)! We could still use a couple people, folks. Insanely fun. If you live too far away, re-think that. Airline tickets? It's just money

CoffeeCon 2015: call for home roasters

One thing I, personally, am trying to get away from, is bringing my "premium" gear. Anyone interested -- bring your popper. Your dog bowl. Yeah, bring the hacked SC/TO too (or the retain home-roasting devices) -- but the point here is to make folks aware of how accessible home roasting is (while yes...

CoffeeCon 2015: call for home roasters

Looking for home roasters to demonstrate their craft to the public in Chicago again this year. Jim Smyth is going to be chief cat-herder, (a) because I'm too darned busy with so much, and (b) because he's well-suited to the job. This is an all-volunteer gig, though you'll likely take home some green...

CoffeeCon 2014: four cities (call for participation)

March 7 in NY. Sorry I've been out of the loop for the cons, WAY too busy in life. But that's good for the cons, because regional home roasters need to be doing the work -- this isn't a Chicago operation. Indeed, if anyone's interested please contact Kevin Sinnott directly. Well, his wife:
