Big issue with these is getting parts, the steam wand valves leaking is a common issue with these as well

depending on the age these have knowingly bad steam valves that start to leak from fun places over time. The inner valve oring that connects to the handle on the side is the worst one beucase it leaks steam inside

i have a fleet of conti stuff, yes that's the drain and you did it right, normally you just crack that open a few turns. Most likely clogged as stated so looks like your doing a full teardown. pull the safety valve or vacuum breaker out and just flip it upside

even just put your finger on the valve and you should be able to feel the click, or pull the exhaust and the nut off and try to slide the coil off with the pump running you will feel resistance if the coil is energized
