First shot, one drop, but now I'm on my way
Thank you Rafael. It seems that somewhere between 30 and 35 works best for the coffees I've been trying. Of course, that is not the factory settings since I changed it, so there's no telling how it compares to the scale on other K10's. I finished up my first container of Espresso Vivace Dolce day

What's your day job?
I'm an assembler language programmer and a systems programmer supporting the operating systems on IBM z/Series mainframes for a major corporation. I manage a group of systems programmers these days, but I still get my hands dirty from time to time. Those in my profession may be the dinosaurs of IT, ...

Mahlkonig says "no rice"
I'm a brewer too, like MUTTS and five and dime. I don't think I'd try grinding any malted grains in my ginder. Even a pale ale malt will leave a discernible aroma after grinding. But flaked maize or flaked rice that is used for brewing doesn't have much smell, is quite soft, and would surely do

First shot, one drop, but now I'm on my way
Posted in "Tips for a starter using a bottomless portafilter", but I'll repeat it here since it's relevant. I guess this is turning out to be a blog of sorts, since no one has commented. Of course, I don't believe I've asked any questions either

Tips for a starter using a bottomless portafilter
I used my bottomless PF for the first time today (my second day of making espresso). I pulled three shots. None of them sprayed anywhere. They all started as a scattering of drops that coalesced into a field of drips that funneled down to two streams and then joined together into one, all over about...

No pre-infusion on Vibiemme Domobar Super with rotary pump
I have the same machine as jdrock, although mine is plumbed in to my water supply, pressure-regulated to 30 psi. I'm not using an external water tank and pump like jdrock. But I also wonder about pre-infusion. It seems that pressure builds continuously as soon as the water starts flowing into the gr...

First shot, one drop, but now I'm on my way
Three more shots this morning, all drinkable, and more or less enjoyable. Two straight shots and one cappuccino. I again used the previously frozen Espresso Vivace Dulce. Like yesterday, the two straight shots were a little more bitter than I think they should be, although my taste is uneducated, so...

Watery espresso - not sure about grinder and/or settings
I'm a newbie myself, just starting out on the road to espresso nirvana, so I can't give you any advice yet. But I just have some observations I'll share. It's difficult to see your images, especially the ground coffee pics. Therefore it'll be hard for anyone to evaluate them. A better camera or lens

First shot, one drop, but now I'm on my way
It's been six weeks since UPS delivered my direct-connect rotary pump Vibiemme Domobar Super HX and my Compak K10 WBC grinder. It took me this long to get my water filtration and softening system assembled and hooked up. I did have to finally break down and call a plumber, but I consider it money we...
