VST Filter Basket Dosing Issues?
I started using the VST filter about two weeks ago the first few days my shots were bitter with a fast pull. A finer grind (4 marks finer) and reducing from 18g to 17.5g of red bird got me back pulling shots better than the stock rocket double filter. I never had a problem with spritzing though. Als...

New coffee, grind adjustment?
I am new to this also and have been where you are. All I can say is what works for me. Do you have scale and timer and a 2oz shot glass? I start at a specific dose for a given brand of coffee. My grinder seems to be about 2 seconds between marks. I dose 17g, tamp, and pull

How much coffee in your freezer?
Great responses. Had to show a few of them to the wife for a reality check. She is used to the buy a pound of coffee in a plastic bucket and leave it on the counter till another is bought. When I broke out the vacuum sealer and mason jars she thought I was taking this a little too far..LOL

I read the posts on freezing and just wondered is this a common practice of buying in bulk or just a couple of pounds a month. Just c...

Is there an ideal dose? 16g?
I am also using Red Bird and my wife likes a 17g and I like 17.5 with a 25 sec pull. I started with 16g and the shot seemed weak. It wasn't bitter or sour just weak. Based on tasting threads I kept the grind the same and just added an extra gram which got me to the profile I

New Super Jolly and Giotto well read newbie.
{link} I don't know much about coffee beans. I know some beans are better for espresso than others. Ideas on regions and what I should look for when beginning to pick beans not previously mentioned on this site or a well known roster/supplier??

New Super Jolly and Giotto well read newbie.
Update, The redbird arrived last night. Today I made a wonderful cappa. I might have added a little two much milk but it was great. I used 14g redbird which I plan to increase to 15g with a slight tweak to the grind to see how it goes. Looking for a more fuller cup, just a little bolder. Really helped
