Seeking new espresso machine w/reservoir, rotary, volumetric, traditional look

I'm moving and my plumbed-in Vivaldi can't come. In my new home, the machine will be used by multiple people and we have collectively determined that it needs to have the following characteristics: - cannot be plumbed in; - rotary pump; - volumetric dosing; - traditional espresso machine look; - pro...

Linea Caffe's five year $5 discount

I just finished off a bag of the single-origin Brazil. As advertised, the roast was different (lighter) than their Espresso Blend. After trying a few different approaches for dialing it in, I concluded I was getting what I could out of the bean and that it wasn't to my taste. I lean towards a fairly...

Linea Caffe's five year $5 discount

I emailed the shop this question as I enjoy my Linea espresso subscription. I asked specifically about the Ethiopia and Brazil coffees currently on their website, and the response was that the single origins are not currently roasted for espresso but there are folks who do pull Ethiopia and Brazil a...

Experience with Nomadic coffee?

I stumbled across Nomadic Coffee in a local grocer here in SF and on a whim picked up a bag of Interstate 5 (medium roast; Hond, Guat, Brazil blend). The store also had Lone Pine (med-dark) and Tioga Pass (med-dark), but they had been roasted in July and I am cautious with unknown dark roasts. The I...

Ceado E37S or Mahlkonig K30?

Perhaps start by searching hb; I think you'll find rich discussion of these grinders pros/cons. If you desire more guidance, I'm sure folks would be happy to address specific quex. I have a K30 owner and don't find retention bad at all

Weighing espresso vs volumetric machine

I've been engaged in an ongoing effort to talk myself into "upgrading" my 10+ year old Vivaldi to a LM Mini. But I've been bummed about losing volumetric dosing. I was convinced by Kaminsky's experiment comparing eyeball v volumetric in a commercial setting. Plus, my volumetric Vivaldi is paired wit...

Wet puck, how to fix it?

I'd never adjust dose or grind to dry a puck, but knocking out a wet, messy puck is not ideal. I think I get wet pucks more often when I remove the portafilter immediately after pulling a shot. If I wait a few seconds, e.g. to steam my milk and create my cappuccino, I think the wet puck is less

Converting Mahlkonig K30 or PEAK into a single dose grinder

I expect you're correct and that there was a bit of the caf in the de-caf puck and vice-versa. But I wasn't bothered by the contamination. On Barista mode, I ran the K30 until no further grinds emerged. So if grinds were retained, they were hiding in the burr chamber or exit path. My understanding i...

Converting Mahlkonig K30 or PEAK into a single dose grinder

At risk of reviving a mostly-dead horse...I had a house guest this week who only drinks de-caf. After reading discussions here, I originally planned to send her to the corner shop for drinks, but the shop had some recently roasted de-caf on hand so I decided to try to accommodate her at home with my...
