Roasting Metropolis Greenline with a RK or bbq drum roaster

After enjoying another bag of Metropolis redline, and "getting schooled" for my home roasting skills, I am about to pick up a 5#er of Greenline (the unroasted sister to Redline), and give it a go on my RK. I have read that it is best to hit the first crack fast and hot, then slow the roast to coast

Modern Marvels - Coffee (History Channel Documentary)

Luckily my community college COD in Glen Ellyn IL, has both the Modern Marvels of Coffee, and Black Gold about the Fair trade movement. Now that is a show stopper. Makes me think about this coffee thing, and appreciate a good fair trade bean, or even better the Direct Trade that Intelly is working o...

How many shots of espresso per pound of coffee?

Lets see, 18 grams per double? 28 grams in an oz, 16 oz in a pound, 450 grams per pound, divide, multiplied, the answer about 24, then you must knock off a bit for dosing, waste, or a bad shot or two. That puts you in the low 20's. Thanks Dan for the easy answer. Or about

Espresso machines and selling ones house

Thanks for the advice, and Bill thanks for the pointers. All the pics have been removed, and the espresso machine will take up residence in the basement, so the butcher block counter can shine. Also thanks for putting the home vs house for sale idea in my head, that makes perfect sense. As I enjoy m...

Espresso machines and selling ones house

A silly, but timely question to the HB forum. I am selling my house and would like to know if I should "hide my Anita" off from the counter top. The shiny beast may be imposing for prospective buyers. The only problem is when I want a cappuccino, I don't have it there ready to

First (charcoal) and second attempt at stovetop roasting

I have stove topped for almost 2 years prior to moving up to a RK. I used to roast 1 pound in a preheated b2b stainless, at less than medium heat. With constant aggitation (turning) I roated to full city or FC+ in 13-16 minutes depending on the heat. The lower the heat, the more even the

Looking for Espresso Roast Recommendations

Hey, I was just at Intelly for the barista intro training. The tour guide (forgot his name, but he did a great tour) stated that a new LA Intelly was to open in late spring, and they shipped out one of their Gothot roasters to roast on site. So no 4 day ups delay to get Black Cat

Back to basics stove top popper

I have only roasted this way on an electric stove. My stove is easy to control with heat. When I first started I would over heat the bean, and finish 1# in less than 10 min to past the second crack. This led to an uneven roast. Upon suggestion from TimEggers, I slowed it down to
