Any advantages of HX vs. single boiler for espresso purist?
Would agree with all the technical points , until the last sentence of second paragraph. If I could re-phrase it : "There are such "great" needs to have "flexible shot temp" so one's could enjoy wide "variety" of coffee in a "very short period of time". Therefore HX machine is champ. But doesn't thi...

Which would you prefer: single dosing or hopper/weighing system?
Every time this kind of post popup, in the back of my head "Ooh boy here we go again". And I guarantee questions like "single dosing or hopper load?" "stop by eyes or volumetric ?" will never die. For me its a matter of the man behind the gun. And that man situation

Hario Mini stripped top bolt - Any way to fix?
I have facing the same problem with that top bolt. My solution is to cut a thread using 6mm dies, screw a 10mm nut on top of it. And use a 10mm socket and a power drill to drive it. The idea is to make the nut as a sacrificial part and

Pharos++ Preview
Nice idea. Thinking about it, maybe an extra plate + longer supporting rod, the same like that came from OE, will make it sturdier. With sturdier frame, you will get a smooth coupling between motor and the grinding shaft. I suspecting that with current setting, you get some rattle, because the grind...

Best grinder for home-barista?
Hi Marshall, AFAIK, the "Espresso" version have more precise timer. The timer discrimination is 0.1 sec compare to 0.5 in "All Around" version. It could store memory setting for single and double dose, just like the K30. Some electronic shot counter and alarm to warn that it is time to clean the bur...

Best grinder for home-barista?
Hi Randy, I guess, in Marco original post he did not stated "single dosing" as his main criteria. And then again, I depends on ones "true" purpose for single dosing. Is it for "consistency" or "switch-ability" ala Jim Schulman? I do switch beans but NOT to the extreme like professional cupper, who m...

Best grinder for home-barista?
Hi Chris, the Pro-M price for me maybe not the main compromises. Considering its market positioning are one level up the Vario, and I could say it is not so expensive after comparing to its competitors. For competitors, I mean grinder with 64mm burr, doserless with electronic timer. I don't now the ...

Best grinder for home-barista?
Hi Marco, If 'waste' is the major factor, maybe you should consider Mahlkoenig Pro-M. But if you could not accept a bit compromises, then the Nino will be the answer. I have long consider those two & K30 but only pull the trigger last month to order Pro-M as my second grinder. Unfortunately it will ...
