Is the first shot of the day really considered not as good?
Yeah I totally agree, for me its the same. My grinder will hold on to a little bit of coffee which i use to bring everything up to temp etc etc then the shot gets binned. For me and my machines it makes a difference and it was something i was always taught and something i teach. for the

Cup shape conducive to latte art?
it definitely makes a difference when you're starting out. I try and use the wider cups when im teaching because it can help. Another good factor that is often over looked is to try and get the amount of milk you use correct. obviously if you use to little u have an empty cup but if you use too much

Peculiar behaviour by Isomac Venus, tech issue?
I'm sure a good service would go down a treat! I have my machines regularly serviced & encourage my students to do the same. I'd definitely recommend having a tech guy do it & if you speak to the right companies you can often buy service kits or have them put together a kit for you. Kim xxx

Group gasket replacement tips
I once came across a machine that was sooo abused the gaskets were rock solid, i normally put two screws in and the pull the gasket out - easy. With this one (on 2 group heads actually) it was soo bad it had me wondering if it was a gasket at all!...lol. Luckily, my other half is an engineer so
