"A better way to grind coffee" from Washington Post - "Moisture-controlled triboelectrification during coffee grinding"
Chris, if I still lived in Oregon I would take you up on it. However, I moved to Hawaii many many years ago. I don't know much about fluid mechanics; that's my son's thing (he models combustion in rocket engines). I did once work through a book of Georges Matheron when I was doing some work

"A better way to grind coffee" from Washington Post - "Moisture-controlled triboelectrification during coffee grinding"
I recommended it on Usenet groups. I don't know if they count as reliable. Perhaps I should post some of the old threads from alt.coffee here on Home Barista; I still have access to them. (Dan, if you're reading this, let me know.) It isn't something I ever thought of as "pioneering". It is something

"A better way to grind coffee" from Washington Post - "Moisture-controlled triboelectrification during coffee grinding"
Incidentally, the discussion of this on alt.coffee goes back at least to 2002. (Possibly even earlier on rec.food.drink, though my records of that group are spotty.) - A. N. Enthusiast

"A better way to grind coffee" from Washington Post - "Moisture-controlled triboelectrification during coffee grinding"
Many years ago one of the owners of a grinder company I won't name either posted (or was quoted as saying) on alt.coffee that most of the grinders they had in for service for gunked-up burrs were from people who regularly ground frozen beans. (The implication was that the gunk was from the moisture....

"A better way to grind coffee" from Washington Post - "Moisture-controlled triboelectrification during coffee grinding"
I was only trying to make the point that when I recommended this on a.c I was past needing it myself. Oregon (and now Honolulu) are relatively grind-friendly environments compared to Wisconsin and Minnesota, where I first started using it. Obviously YMMV

"A better way to grind coffee" from Washington Post - "Moisture-controlled triboelectrification during coffee grinding"
Ironically, I largely stopped using it myself when I moved to Oregon, as the humidity was higher than where I'd been living and so static was less of a problem for me

Poor person's freshest coffee choice
Assuming this is for espresso drinks, you might find that beans from Italian roasters, while not the freshest, are less stale than beans from your local supermarket, simply because they package better. Lavazza, for example, vacuum packs, and you can usually find some of their Arabica espresso blends...
