Third Wave Water issue or something else?

Depending on your RO setup you maybe removing all the chlorine from the water so it is more prone to bacterial growth. A contaminated RO system would definitely explain the consistency in the re-appearance of the same bacterial film. But then this should happen if you let your bottles of drinking wa...

What espresso standards, fads, and trends have reversed over the years?

I meant ratios by weight but yeah I know what you mean. It does indeed seem like we are in the same place, quite funny to read your post actually. How could I have forgotten the GS/3

What espresso standards, fads, and trends have reversed over the years?

Very interesting topic for me here as essentially I joined this forum somewhere in 2009/2010 and read it daily for about a couple of years where I really tried to learn as much as I could. Then the enthusiasm kind of faded and despite occasional visit it has definitely been a while since I visited a...

Used Gaggia TS1 commercial espresso machine

Hello everyone, Does anyone has experience with this machine? I got a deal on one that I can buy for less than £100. The machine has presumably the pressurised boiler unit broken and is missing the portafilter. Is this worth to spend a couple of hundred pounds to bring it back to its mint state or i...

Baratza Vario grind retention

I do have a VARIO and yes you are right it does retain a good 2/3g the first time you use it. The assumption is, like already been mentioned, that the new old coffee just will stay in the grinder so not affecting the new batch. If you really want to make sure that is the case you try

Frustration galore! Newbie with Gaggia Classic and Baratza Virtuoso needs help

Hi Alex, I also have a Gaggia classic and so decided to add my 5cents. The grinder that you have means less control over the time of the shot. It doesn't mean is not possible to get decent espresso with it. Instead you just don't get the ability to change the grind in 1 seconds range.

What is the meaning of fresh coffee?

Again the answer, like everything in coffee, try out and see what one prefers. Is that it? Does that mean that SO coffees normally degrade faster than blends? My main problem with fresh beans is really the amount of channeling I get on my pours as well as premature blonding. I always associated this...

What is the meaning of fresh coffee?

I normally also buy it on-line but it is roasted and shipped on the same day so I normally get it in 24/48h. I raised this question because I was reading the Titan Grinder Project yesterday and someone mentioned the Caffe Fresco blends has needing a exceptional large period for degassing. When I wen...
