E61 Exhaust Operation

{image} I have a Rocket R58 V1 with over 4,000 shots pulled over the past 4-1/2 years. The Rocket has an E-61 brewhead. I noticed after about 2 years of operation, the exhaust "woosh" when I shut down a shot would not always occur. I took the E-61 brewhead's lower exhaust unit apart to clean (see

Moka pot leaking between midsection - brand new!

If your moka pot leaks around the joint between the top and bottom, meaning the ring-shaped gasket is leaking, then check three things: 1) Is the gasket clean of coffee grounds?; 2) Is the gasket "rubbery", meaning supple and has not hardened from age and heat? (Since your moka pot is new, I'd expec...

La Cimbali Microcimbali - does it have an aluminum boiler?

I inherited a microcimbali from a family member that lovingly cared for it since its purchase in about 1970. It's the one with the red/orange color. Contrary to what many people will tell you, even with its aluminum boiler this machine can survive the ages if properly cared for. The death of these m...

Rocket Cellini Evoluzione V2 pours look too thin

What do you consider as "fresh beans". Contrary to what most roasters will tell you, I notice a decided change in the extraction when the beans are beyond 7 days after the roast date. By 8 to 10 days post-roast, I am working hard to keep the grind dialed in to avoid spraying, early blonding and wate...

Buying roasted coffee at a cafe, how to tip?

This is a good question. I tip for the coffee, but not the beans. In my mind, tips are for the restaurant industry type service, not retail sales. Now that shops are going to POS systems like Square, I noticed the tip comes up as a percentage of the entire transaction - which I find

New Izzo Alex Duetto - found it stained when unboxing it. Why?

The machine was obviously used. The resolution begs the question. Will Izzo turn around and pawn the machine off on someone else now? It sure sounds fishy they sent it out as a new order to begin with

Leaky portafilter

If it is leaking around the outside of the portafilter, where the portafilter mates up with the gasket, then most likely either the gasket is bad, or you have dirt or debris stuck on the gasket - preventing a good seal. If the machine is only a couple months old, then maybe your gasket is dirty. The...

Rocket R58 upgrade questions

I have had a R58 for about a year and a half and have pulled about 1,500 shots through it. Here are my answers: 1) Based on the steam boiler pressure, the machine is back up to temp by the time I am ready to pull another shot. I let the machine warm up for 30
