Understanding A Roast Problem
Jman, It's not the greens. I'm drinking from four different roasts I did of this same bean from Gen-X. While I like the City + roast the best, they're all fine, other than a slightly ashy taste at Full City+, which resulted from my roasting error. The City+ is just like what you've been describing y...

Charging at a High ET without Tipping/Scorching/Charring?
Rama, Pretty simple probe "installation". How long have you been using it that way? Do you find it consistent? Do you think it's as accurate and consistent a placement as the bean chute cover or the back of the chamber? I'm considering getting a probe but didn't really want to hassle with the drilli...

Measuring dose by weight vs volume for brewing (not espresso)?
Thanks guys, that's what I figured. Just wondered 'cause the chart I saw gave coffee to water ratios in both weight and by tablespoons, and the Techivorm manual says by scoop, which they provide. Jman, I also have a .01 to 2000g. scale that I've been using for coffee. Love it

Measuring dose by weight vs volume for brewing (not espresso)?
Is it better to weigh my brewing dose or measure by volume (scoops)? I've been weighing my coffee to brew and noticed a big difference in volume depending on how light or dark I roast. Which is the best way and why? I know for espresso it's better to weigh ("discussion") but most espresso roasts are...

How to Roast to City, City+ on a Hottop?
Thanks, guys. Henry, I'll try your profile tomorrow. What bean and batch size was it for? I'm working my way thru a 5lb. bag of Colombian Huila Monserrate to get the hang of things on the Hottop. Any recommended adjustments based on this bean? Congrats, by the way, for both Dream Camp and the Roast

How to Roast to City, City+ on a Hottop?
Thanks Jim, How long can I or should I stretch the time from first crack to the end of the roast with city+? Everything I read says how important this is but I don't know if it applies to the lighter roasts also. What should be my target time from 1C till I dump for city and city

How to Roast to City, City+ on a Hottop?
Just getting the hang of my new hottop (seven roasts). I've had good success with full city and full city+. I understand the importance of stretching the finishing ramp and have been able to get four to five minutes after first crack begins to end of roast. I'm looking for advice on profiling city a...

Must-have Roasting Information
Thanks guys. I definitely plan on checking out the Boot articles and buying David's book. I did read the "How to Home Roast" by Ken Fox, it was a wealth of info for someone at my stage. I don't do espesso at home, yet, but I can probably still learn something about darker roasts. I do drink all SOs
