Have owned a La Pavoni Professional for over a year... need decent grinder.

+1 on a good hand grinder. They're now quite a few that are espresso worthy. I have an OE Lido ET. Got it used for about $120 USD. Grind is different but as consistent for good extraction as the older commercial grinder I've got. You would very likely find a big improvement in extraction quality

Profitec Pro 800, won't heat after power outage

Could be the solid state relay. I think they're sensitive to over voltage damage. A power outage surge could do that

Lever Position on Manual vs. Spring

Unscrewing the lever is a selling point for limited vertical clearance. Not cross threading it in the morning would be a wake me up. I'd still do it if that's what it took to get a lever. AFAIK, non spring levers rest down. The springs rest up. I also believe the groups fill with a

The espresso journey begins...setup advice, please!

Lots of discussion on moka pots. It's a different extraction, in my experience. I have a Bialetti. Could never get a brew with it that tasted like an espresso extraction. It tastes good but flat in comparison. I'm on my third upgrade set up and probably have the right one for me. Really like the

Coffee too fresh for espresso. How to tell?

I depends on the roaster, bean and profile, I think, on how long of a rest settles down a roast for extractions that will bring out its character notes. I had an iRoast fluid bed a while ago. Roasted some Ethiopian Harrar and after maybe a 4 day degass rest consistently got overwhelming blueberry es...

The espresso journey begins...setup advice, please!

With an E61 grouphead you could also add a flow control as a down the road upgrade. Downside of an older E61 is worn parts but they're not that hard to work on and parts are pretty standard and common

The espresso journey begins...setup advice, please!

For up to $1000 I'd look into a good condition used e61 HX and commercial grinder setup pair. Grinders like Macap M4s or Mazzer Minis have long lives. Adjusting grind setting from espresso fine to pour over coarse could be a chore, though

Coffee too fresh for espresso. How to tell?

I let light roasts rest over 4 days, mostly 10 especially the 3rd wave kind. Too fresh and the tastes can be raw and the extraction unpredictable. Most third wave light roasts settle down and smooth out after 10 days. Dark classic roasts for me are ok after 4 days. With my own roasts I try them

From Super Jolly to doserless grinder

I used a stepless Macap M4 as a doserless for years partly because I changed roasts from shot to shot, partly because I didn't like fresh roasts sitting in a hopper. There's a lot more single dose grinders to choose from now. I got a Ceado E37SD on sale and really like it. Yes, it's
