Ion Beam static reducer
How do you determine "it works"? Has EY increased for the same shot parameters? Or is it cosmetic appearance (e.g. looks "fluffier", fewer clumps)?

Ion Beam static reducer
1. In insulators (like dry coffee) subsurface charges are the problem. That is the reason grounding doesn't help but humidity and RDT (which increases conductivity due to Ions from leftover acids - like chologenic acid) does. BTW - Powder coating (which is an insulator) industry has a ton of research

Ion Beam static reducer
So I don't think that is how it works.... So regarding polarity: a triboelectric charging is typically a particular polarity depending on the rubbing materials. Some like to give up electrons, other prefer to sequester electrons. So it is likely the coffee would be mostly positive (or negative - hav...

How Much Effort and Money Does Home Espresso Take?
I think that the majority of new espresso "fans" start with Nespresso. So it is pretty cheap. So it isn't that much of a commitment. More a goldfish than a puppy. If then it turns into a hobby - eg starting to taste coffees at friends - it can then go up. 30 years

Confused about grinders
Are the Titus and the Versalab "lower build, less precision and cheaper burrs"? At the extreme, some of the best values in grinders ditch the motor and are manual. One can afford a morse tapered - centered and aligned - with a reasonable size burrs. Obviously - you can't drive a 4 burr DRM style or ...

Comments on La Marzocco Linea Micra Espresso Machine Review
This in intriguing. So it reminds me of the Basket comparisons done by Jim many years ago and on one graph ("How filter baskets affect espresso taste and barista technique") there was the variability of the brew ratio to dose for different baskets. Where some baskets (e.g. VST) were very finicky oth...

Confused about grinders
What "qualities"? 1. Induction needs slip. Without slip no current is induced (hence "induction") in the cage. So the rotor speed is always lower than the phase speed. it isn't constant at all. It depends on the required torque. With quite a bit of clever circuitry (frequently referred to as VFD - v...

Confused about grinders
That is part of the fun. Pulling apart the Versalab to check the brushes (it is a brushed 130V DC motor) - They had less than 1mm wear. Still about 2cm left. This is after some 13 years. Probably won't have to change brushes in my lifetime. Somewhat remarkable, but not much so if you realize the mot...

Confused about grinders
I am of the evil camp (that has a now > 2000$ grinder) - but I've heard great things about the Sette's - all of them. Obviously made for a price point (the gearbox that has to be replaced semi-annually comes to mind); but Etzinger's main focus was quality of grind (at the cost of overworked plastic ...
