Ethiopia: Misty Valley, Yirgacheffe from Coffee Bean Corral
I appreciate the notes drgary posted, it's interesting to hear how processing has changed; I had just put the flavor differences entirely down to climate and other natural factors. I've had Gracenote's Misty Valley in my rotation for a few years, and I also noticed in 2023 that the blueberry is a wi...

Decent Espresso news
With a bottomless, I've got no trouble fitting a mug on top of a Lunar sitting on the regular drip tray. Any of my espresso cups, cappuccino cups, or measuring cups fit just fine even with the spouted portafilter

Espazzola Looks Interesting, But...
I've been using one (v1 on E61, v2 on Decent) since they first came out, and I think it does a great job on the grouphead and gasket. I use it after every session, at least twice a day. I also use a Pallo grouphead brush first to get the grounds off the shower screen, but maybe I don't really

Upgrade Kafatek conical burrs - thoughts?
I've been so pleased with my 2016 Monolith Conical (the OG version) that I've never seriously considered upgrading to a newer version. It just works and produces great coffee with minimal fuss. That said, I would certainly be interested in trying it side-by-side with an MC5!

Decent and next level of excellence
I've had my DE1Pro for 2.5 years (after 9 years on an E61 double boiler that could brew and steam simultaneously), and my experience has been that the DE1 steaming workflow does not bother me at all. I start the shot brewing, then get the milk from the fridge, fill the pitcher, and put the milk away...

Still haven't extracted a good cup
Almost certainly it's your grinder. Plenty of threads on here about how a good grinder is more important than the espresso machine. It's not just about grinding fine, it's about particle distribution and consistency. You could grind coffee to powder in a $10 blade grinder and it would never produce ...

Arrarex Caravel portafilter not locking into place
Hard to tell from the photo, but zooming in it looks like the grouphead gasket is very worn. I think I see a deep groove probably worn by the portafilter

Decent Espresso news
Ha! I had pretty much the same thought. Everything in my parents' 1970s kitchen was "avocado" and "terra cotta". Though, honestly, we have 3 of those colors on our walls from when we last repainted (10 years ago). I thought the color palette these days was more muted and monochromatic

Water usage and filter replacement
In April of 2021, I installed a digital water meter on the water line for my espresso machine (Decent DE1PRO). As of yesterday, I'd used a total of 35 gallons of water. I generally pull two shots a day, steam milk less than once a day, flush between shots to clean the shower screen, and water backfl...
