Powering up a brasilia portofino 3grp espresso machine for the first time
Maybe our machines are different, but, the manual fill button was just a button I pressed. Wasn't in or out. My solenoid is attached to the big chunk of brass also holding the manual fill button. It's right under the drip tray

Powering up a brasilia portofino 3grp espresso machine for the first time
I just wrapped up the last leak on my Brasilia Portofino 1grp restoration/deep clean. Hopefully, your machine is like mine, only wider. When I first got the machine I had symptoms similar to yours. I put the switch into position 1 (everything powered but heater) and was greeted by a very loud 60Hz h...

Brasilia Portofino restoration
I fluxed up the offending ferrule, gave it a very careful touch with the mapp gas torch and fed in some lead free solder. Took a little fiddling with a wet rag to smooth the solder down enough for the tightening barrel to get over it, but, it wasn't too bad. Hooked it back up with a 3/8"

Well, it's back together and we have steam: {image} The flow meter, the pstat, my rebuilt steam wand, autofill etc, etc, seems to work.... Even my fixing and rewiring the 220 switch to 120 works great. I've pulled a couple of shots on it and everything seems to be fine. It looks

On the subject of descaling, I'd like to give the grouphead a good clean, but, I worry about the chrome. This is what it looks like now: {image} I have a good idea what the passages look like... I'd like to give it a good dunk in citric (it's doing a good job on everything else)

Brasilia Portofino restoration
Got a pound of critic acid and set things to soak. Now I have a set of much cleaner looking tubes and bits and pieces. This may or may not solve the autofill issue. When I last had the machine on the autofill didn't seem to work and I chalked it up to a wiring

Brasilia Portofino restoration
I ended up just putting everything back into the chassis and hooking it all back up - call it a learning experience. I used the air compressor to charge the boiler to ~1.6bar - that's right about where's a red line on the gauge. With a cardboard gasket for the element and blocking off the steam wand...

Brasilia Portofino restoration
I was thinking about the compressor option as i was headed into work this morning. There's a non-stock looking barbed fitting for the drain on the bottom and I could either use that to attach the air compressor or, if someone has "upgraded" me to pipe threads, just attach a spare air chuck fitting. ...

Brasilia Portofino restoration
Took a closer look at the flow meter (honestly expecting the worse) and it seems to spin free. I'll want to try it with a syringe and a little water to make sure, but, it seems to be fine. It works as an opto-interrupter. Simple and completely sealed with none of the electronic bits ever needing to
