Astoria AL-1 queries: piston seal maintenance, steam pressure drops
Jet-Lube MP Silicone Grease is another food and heat safe lubricant you can use on your piston seals. It flows a bit better than the Dow 111, which needs quite a firm squeeze. It may or may not be available in Ireland. I am not sure

Bosco groups vs the rest
The short answer to the question you posted is that the Conti Prestina group runs hot since it is directly connected to the group. So, I routinely have to run cooling flushes when it is on for long periods of time. Bosco machine groups are not directly connected to the group and utilize a pipe conne...

Bosco groups vs the rest
Does over complicating something make it better? I would argue that it simply makes it more complicated and adds unnecessary parts to wear and eventually replace on most items. I would much rather purchase a simple, well-worked, handcrafted and item with a time tested design than a modern, new, high...

Bosco groups vs the rest
That comparison is like saying the Ford family is building cars. They surely own a company that does this and has been doing this since 1903, but I am sure you will not see William Clay Ford Jr. down on the assembly line actually building anything. I can only assume that the Bezzera family members t...

Bosco groups vs the rest
The reason I feel this way about Bosco is because Attilio has been making the espresso machines since the 1960s. He started with a design and has since made little modifications here and there continuously over the years. These little mods and tweaks are still part of Bosco today and keeps them at t...

Bosco groups vs the rest
I would say build quality and reliability are the number one reasons companies decide to use the 'Bosco' groupheads. I can not speak to the many machines that use the similar groupheads, but I do know that the groups Bosco uses themselves do have proprietary modifications that Attilio has integrated...

Good Espresso in Metro Detroit Area?
I noticed this thread and have to agree with what has been said about Commonwealth. I grew up in Birmingham and go back for most holidays to spend time with family. It is the only cafe I enjoy going to in the area. I have had a few shots where the beans seemed to need a little more rest, but

La Marzocco Espresso-only Shot Brewer
The Shot Brewer MP only has a PID screen, which looks like the smaller upper screen on the machine in your picture. What you took a picture of at Handsome has 2 screen visible. I wonder if that is their Shot Brewer EP? Maybe you program the pressure profile with the second, lower, and larger screen

Supposedly you have finer control over the pressure with the EP
