Do you roast better than commercially?

Everything has been so equipment oriented in this thread. Equipment matters only if you know how to use it. i started with a Behmor, then Hotop B modified, onto Diedrich IR-1. Plenty of difference between the three roasters I used

Moving from small to large roasters

That was probably me and that was info that came from the sales team at Diedrich. However every IR machine works the same as its brothers just scaled. I would feel very comfortable walking up to any size IR and working it, there is only 3 air flow settings and a gas dial, getting me dialed in would ...

Air flow in roasting

I would assume you would order the roaster from Diedrich to your specs and then crating and shipping. Where does the extra money go? Moving from the HotTop B to a 1kg commercial roaster took some getting used to. Thankfully Ken Fox got his IR-1 about the same time as me and with his help I got out of

Air flow in roasting

Have you ruled Diedrich out? The IR-5 and IR-12 are both under $20k usd without automation and shipping last time I checked and the 2.5 is under $15k

North Coffee TJ-067 - IR Version

I have a Diedrich IR-1. The IR burner is directly below the drum. Some chaff collects in the burner area and I vacuum it out about every 5kg or so, this would be very different with a perforated drum. The IR-1 is rated at 8000btu/per hour at max pressure. What is someone's 1kg atmospheric burner rat...

A Fast Finish Roast Profile

Okally Dokally, I have two of the three and will give a go. With my IR burner I will have to lay on the gas and not let up until the the "bitter" end

Santoker 500/Revolution 500 Roaster - User Reviews

Since the machine is capable of doing 0-100 rpm I think my example stays in reality here, yes 10 is slow and I would consider 90 fast. Drum fin design and batch size would be something I would consider as to what the best rpm would be for a batch size. So even at 10 rpm the fins

Santoker 500/Revolution 500 Roaster - User Reviews

Nice feature indeed! Not sure about the centrifugal force at greater speeds making more contact with a roasting drum. A drum spinning at 10 RPM is going to keep the same beans in contact with the drum for a longer amount of time and beans will spend less time airborne then a drum turning at 90rpm
