What grinders have you owned or tried?

Started, like many others, with a whirly blade then bought an espresso machine with an integrated grinder (Avanti combo) and then it went all crazy from there. A multitude of antique hand grinders that are used more as decoration/collection but include these newer grinders: 1st gen Lido 1st gen Phar...

I fully agree with this statement. I have increased the speed of mine by changing the gear ratio of the sprockets in the chain drive. From another thread of a while back:

La Spaziale Vivaldi II: stand-by mode vs turn off

When you plug the machine it goes in stand by mode. If you have to plug the machine you are introducing an additional step. When the Vivaldi is in stand by mode the heaters are not active and the boilers get cold . Being unplugged or in stand by does not make any difference in the warm up time

Bigger burrs fact or myth? (in the cup)

Bigger burrs taste different than smaller burrs, most of the time. Whether the taste in-the-cup is better depends on your own appreciation. I have a Macap MXKR that has smaller burrs than my Robur, but for some coffee I swear that I prefer the taste from the MXKR. I have a Major that has bigger burr...

Thoughts on clump-crushers?

For what it's worth, since the OP is possibly talking about something else, the Nuova Simonelli Mythos "Clump crusher" WAS a game changer for the Mythos when it was introduced. I own a first generation Mythos that came before the clump crusher and it was great but producing a somewhat clumped extrus...

Bosco group: double vs single spring version [video]

TX, I had never seen that one. Back on topic. I do not understand why, if all parameters are the same except for the peak pressure, the pour would occur in the same time duration? I understand that the yield will be the same since the coffee puck has the same composition and same saturation. The vol...

SSP grinding burrs for Nuova Simonelli Mythos

By the way, according to Hansung Lee of SSP, they are using a very similar geometry as the original for the NS Mythos replacement burrs. Although, Hansung says that they are using a different number of teeth on the top and bottom burrs to increase grinding efficiency. Will post pictures when I get t...

SSP grinding burrs for Nuova Simonelli Mythos

My grinder is in need of a new set of burrs. I thought that I would get the SSP burrs a try. Anyone tried the SSP burrs for the Mythos? I am being offered the Red speed (TiAICN, I think), the Silver Knight (??) or the TiCN coatings. Anybody has a recommendation?
