What grinder to consider as upgrade from Rancilio Rocky?
I upgraded from a Rocky to a used Mazzer Super Jolly and it was a big improvement. Just sold the Rocky last week and am thinking about getting the Pharos. Love the SJ

Hasn't been an issue for me. I took someone's advice here and start with near boiling water from a kettle on the stove and that works well

Treatment for EBMUD water (east bay of San Francisco)
I'm in N. Oakland and use a Brita filter too. Never had any issues. I think you'll be fine just using some type of water filter

Arrarex Caravel blown heating element ???
Yikes -- that's too bad. Not all is lost though, as you can pour boiling hot water into the tank and still pull good shots. I've been doing that for a while now. Of course, it's not going to keep it's temp, but works fine for a shot, maybe two

I agree Heckie! I was planning to stop in to see Christopher tomorrow to pick up some parts, but may not make it now that other stuff has come up. He's a great guy. My family has been buying from him since his father started the shop

Absolutely cheapest decent espresso machine (w/steam) & grinder combo for 2nd set-up
My pourover shots with the Caravel are so good I haven't bothered to get a converter or transformer yet (been a few months now). I'm still amazed at how delicious the Caravel ristretto is

La Pavoni O-ring gasket question - wrong size?
Ray, If you're not too far from San Francisco I recommend taking the machine into Thomas Cara. Chris knows more about Pavoni's than anyone I've met and I'm sure he could help you out. Paul
