Do your family / housemates use your espresso machine?

As it's just me, my girlfriend and my dog (who's keen on cappuccinos, but doesn't get any ) It's 95% myself only who uses my coffee-rig. although I've shown her how to operate it and she occasionally makes a coffee for her or friends. it's "OK". But she doesn't fancy to take the RIGHT TIME to

Bottomless portafilter resulting in "sputtering" and uneven extraction

Thanks for all the replies! 1. Coffee... It is from a local roasted, freshly roasted... The Problem is that I had the original packing at my machine shop, so when I posted I did not exactly remember the roast date - but I knew it was between two to three weeks. (it's called "Bonga Bonga" and is an

Bottomless portafilter resulting in "sputtering" and uneven extraction

Being how I am... (I tend to lean towards "perfectionism" "slightly " ) I just spent a good amount of time in front of my coffee-setup playing around with things... and I tried "stirring" the espresso grounds once I had them inside the portafilter as described here: "Improve your Espresso with Weiss...

Bottomless portafilter resulting in "sputtering" and uneven extraction

Hello As of recent I've started to play with the 16gr basket in my open portafilter on my Dalla Corte Mini. but I am not sure what exactly is going wrong... if I grind too fine (by little) the coffee almost won't come through... it only will dribble randomly at certain spots beneath the basket... if

New Setup for the Complete Newbie

From my own experience: I started years ago with a really crappy machine and a even worse grinder... the machine did set me back around 250$ and the grinder did cost just about 30$ (one of those evil knife-blade blender type grinders). The results were appalling. - Don't get me wrong many never noti...

Doserless grinders... the "flat top electric stove" of coffee?

wouldn't be too difficult to build - although if I'd were to build a dosing unit for a grinder (being a machinist) I would go a totally different approach. I would equip the thing with an internal electronic accurate balance, control interface which allows the barista to preset (four direct memory b...

Doserless grinders... the "flat top electric stove" of coffee?

About Doserless Grinders... well - I do have a grinder WITH a doser (Fiorenzato Hz50) and an old modified Gaggia MDF (ugh ;().... The Fiorenzato is a darn fine grinder... and the doser, being adjustable works rather well... however if you're like me, and frequently change between different beans, we...

OPV adjustment went too far: The spring came out

Chad, 12 bar will kill most shots imho... (maybe not some el-cheapo blend from last year (hard to kill something which has already been dead for a long time)) Springs can be a bit of a "mystery"... depending on the type of material and the heat treatment done to them they can last long or
