Breville Dual Boiler Mods and Maintenance

I don't think I've heard of a true silicone grease that does not have a high melt point. 111 is a true silicone grease. As is true silicone grease used in SCUBA breathing apparatus, and swimming pool parts lubricant. The latter two being most likely chemically identical to 111, but not handled accor...

Breville Dual Boiler "Slayer shots"?

This is what worked for me: {image} 1/4 drive 6mm deep socket, driven by a knob ratchet. === Gchapman did something even slicker... He used the stock knob with a hardwood dowel cut down to 1/4 (or was it 3/8) flats, to drive a 6mm socket. === I eventually stopped using the jake valve

Breville Dual Boiler Mods and Maintenance

It is rare that the blue o-rings need replacing. Usually steam leaks associated with the probes are steam getting up between the rod and the ceramic. Nothing to do with the o-ring. The quick and easy fix for that is to remove the probe and pack some silicone grease into the junction between the prob...

Breville Dual Boiler Mods and Maintenance

Somebody on ebay makes a replacement ball out of a hard mineral that doesn't erode over time like the stock ball does. It's for the X5 and P5 form factor pumps. Not sure if it translates to the smaller pump used for steam fills. But wouldn't surprise me if it does. Not sure the model of

Breville Dual Boiler Mods and Maintenance

Philosophy rant warning: Don't take this the wrong way, but I subscribe to the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", mindset when it comes to BDB o-rings. IOW, I only replace the ones that are leaking. Which is almost always only the steam o-rings. The water o-rings rarely if ever leak. The reason is, ...

Breville Dual Boiler Mods and Maintenance

(I just got back from Melbourne last night) There is no diagnosing, only guessing, without looking at what is going on inside the machine. So... Have you started with the basics of any BDB user: 1) remove any and all fasteners that hold the top cover down 2) put them aside for safe keeping Once done

If you are reaching 10 bar, that is close to or at the pressure where the safety valve is set at the factory. The only way for that to happen is through your puck. Grind coarser. Unless you like the coffee you are getting at ten bar. -Peter

Breville Dual Boiler ball valve detail, pics

I ruined a ball valve recently because the bottom tube got pushed up into ball, making it hard to open and close. When I (stupidly) forced it, it ended up stripping the ball. If you (or anyone else) has tried to service the valve, this should not happen to you

Breville Dual Boiler Mods and Maintenance

Hello all. I just heard from a source outside of HB, that Breville is no longer offering the fixed price (including shipping both ways), for repairs. Has anyone else here heard the same? -Peter

Breville Dual Boiler Mods and Maintenance

Typically overheating comes from steam leaking from a failed o-ring associated with the steam boiler, and wetting down the high current board underneath the top cover, causing a thermal runaway. Sometimes it also trips your ground fault protection as well. The fix in this case (if it is your case), ...
