Boiling it would make it worse, mixing with DI water would work much better

Yes, but always be wary of shipping espresso machines in the winter, boilers don't like freezing temperatures

Best technique for descaling an HX espresso machine?

I've used the overfill method successfully on an Expobar Office Control, which is very similar internally to yours. I also removed the water screen and steam tip during flushing to purge an particles. Last, I removed the water probe and cleaned it thoroughly, as it also had some buildup

Rusted La Pavoni Europiccola Steam Knob Pin

I used a finishing nail that I flipped upside down and punched out the pin. Looked just like yours. You can add a little penetrating oil first and let it sit, should help reduce the effort

Troubleshooting La Pavoni Europiccola - No water pressure

I'm wondering if the light never goes on because you never reach pressure. Have you tried measuring the temperature of the water that does come out? Is the steam reasonably powerful?

I think some high temperature teflon tape should do the trick. I'd hesitate to use any "goo" that might be fairly toxic

Have you checked the water level in the tank, or made sure that the probes are making contact with the sensor? This has bitten me before
