Today was a good day - Gaggia Orione!

Groupheads stuck to boiler Italcrem 101
i had a similar problem with my gaggia america.....i ended up tapping gently with a rubber mallet until they came loose. mine were stuck pretty bad, so it required great restraint not to use excessive force or to just jam a screwdirver between the group and the boiler. You can try solvents to "hydra...

EMI "Zodiaco" ???
that looks strikingly similar to the Faema Ariete that I have (yet to restore), except mine is the e-61 and not a lever. the body, drip tray, and top red plastic cup rack and plexi guard rails are all the same as mine. will take a closer look at mine tonight and see for sure

Visacrem lever rebuild
ouch....don't know if there's room for it, but maybe a tightly fitting thin ring around the exterior of the damaged one. if the PF will still fit, then it would be pretty easy to mod a gasket to fit (they might even make one that will fit already). I'm suggesting this because my metal working skills...

Dialing in the Gaggia Orione
after playing around with various settings, I'm pretty close to having everything worked out. I'm getting about 1 oz in 30-40 secs (with 10 secs being for preinfusion), with an additional .75 oz that dribbles out after the mouse tails stop. Crema is surprisingly good and thick, and doesn't dissipate...

Can't remove hardened La Pavoni sight glass seals
there are a whole assortment of organic solvents that attack rubbers and plastics. They are hard to get a hold of and pretty volatile, but sometimes they're the only solution (sorry, couldn't help the pun). Toluene or methylene chloride would probably soften it, if not dissolve it completely (you'd ...

Dialing in the Gaggia Orione
i've made some progress tonight. first, i tightened down the middle nut, which seems to have made a better seal on the piston. this seems to have helped my low volume problem. the second thing i noticed was that during pre-infusion, i need to pump the handle a few times to get resistance on the spri...

HB Home Roasting Competition
This is great...i've been thinking about something like this for a little while....not that i'm good enough to enter (yet...maybe next year though, or if by some fluke i have some appropriate greens on hand). it will be cool to see how everyone fares, since i've essentially learned all i know about ...
