Congrats on the upgrade to the Portofino. I have been loving "my rebuilt Portofino". I hope the crack turns out to not be an issue but I can tell you that the plating on the boiler is microscopically thin. Most of the plating on my mine dissolved off very quickly when I had it soaking in a

Here's my 'new' setup. After a rather lengthy (maybe lazy) restoration of the Portofino, it is producing tasty espresso. Since I finally got it up and running, I had to find a grinder to go with it. I found this Astoria branded SJ luckily rather quickly and for a decent price. {image}

Thread sealant/plumber's dope on fittings
Thanks Mark! Just want to confirm something. You are saying you wouldn't use any sealant, correct? That would be my inclination as well. I have all new copper sealing rings, o-rings, gaskets, etc. so I am ready to go

Whoohoo, first post! I bought a used Brasilia Portofino 1 gr. this summer and it had been poorly taken care of. I had pulled everything apart, cleaned and descaled it a while back but I am finally ready to start reassembling. Some of the fittings looked like they had used some sort of liquid thread ...
