Chicago HB Get-together V: Triple C Throwdown
Wow, I have missed a lot since I went inactive on this forum. I didn't even realize CCC opened a training center in Chicago! Sounds like a great event- I am trying to figure out if I can get there during my lunch hour, hm

Other Hobbies (passions, obsessions?)
I used to play hacky sack in high school and college, but recently I have discovered freestyle footbag. I found that a lot of players make their own footbags, so I have been working on my sewing skills: {image}

Intelligentsia Black Cat- different again
Interesting- I just picked up two pound of BC yesterday, and if memory serves, one was roasted last Wed and one last Thurs, so I might be able to really compare and contrast at home

Basket Overdosing; time for a serious re-evaluation!
Well it just seems like grinding a consistent dose (fresh ground per shot) at a busy cafe would be most easily and efficiently accomplished by the Swift (or something else like it). It seems like the elimination of the manual distribution and tamping process is the reason the Swift is sometimes look...

Basket Overdosing; time for a serious re-evaluation!
Okay, it appears most people who try it agree that using a reduced dose reduces or eliminates the need for the 'sensitive barista's touch' in the distribution and tamp. Would it follow then, that a LM Swift grinder could be a real advantage in a commercial setting (presuming the tamp pressure could ...

SCAA Barista Competition - USBC 2007
Thanks Dan, for the best coverage of the USBC! Did you (or anyone else who could reply) catch Eton Tsuno's performance? I heard (pf.net) that his judges could not be vegetarian. I know at the GLRBC he was working on a savory drink, did this one include meat? From Flickr photos, Scott Lucey appeared ...

Why don't pros use the WDT? More advanced distribution techniques?
To be honest I hadn't even considered the horror of the ultra-fines. I was just trying to keep more of the visible grounds in the basket, rather than the counter where my tamper sits. I will have to consider adding some superfluous gyrations with a towel to my routine

I find the face of the tamper stays cleaner when I give it a little twist (very little pressure) before I remove it from the pf basket. -mike "barry pointed that out once!"

Expobar Office Control: Houston, We Have A Problem!
Interesting you bring up the auto-fill, since it appears that an interlock with the auto-fill appears to be the only reason the power for the heating element passes through the control board at all. If you didn't have to worry about the heating element running on a dry machine, the temperature contr...
