Thanks for the pointers - agree weighing isn't necessary but it would be nice to combine with the pressure profile and time information; this at least provides the option

Poor choice of words. I expected the heating cycle to be shorter (or the cooldown phase longer). Erik mentioned he tends to wait 1/3 into the heating cycle and I wanted to make sure this really means > 1 minute after the light has switched on again

Out of curiosity, I timed a few cycles. With the thermostat set to ~88-91C (open/closed lid) a heating cycle takes almost exactly 4 minutes, followed by 20 seconds with the lights off. I've only timed half a dozen cycles but this seems strangely imbalanced. Are those timings what one would expect wi...

I've yet to be able to remove the piston for a cleanup; for the life of me I cannot figure out how to remove the U shaped clips on the axle without completely scratching up the metal. They almost feel welded in

I've seen the link but it's not.. helpful? The 'Remove the Piston' section has a photograph with the clip already removed and a caption that says 'To remove the piston you loosen the clips on the axle and pull it out'. The 'loosen the clips' part is what I am confused about, but @aecletec's comment ...

More of a maintenance question: what tool do I use to remove the C-rings holding the piston in place? I wanted to give the whole thing a good clean, add lubricant, etc., but those foil me.. to firm to pry apart with fingernails, can't get a plier between the opening without scratching the surface. I've received a similar email from Wouter minutes after I posted the original question. A slight tap during the initial lift seems to be working just fine -- I should have made the connection between the temperature and the valve based on earlier comments
