SCAA 2016

The beer/coffee area was interesting. Although not everything was a winner (I'm not a big sour beer or rye beer fan anyway). The cascara/cider combo was my personal fave. But tastes are individual, as I personally found the LaColombe draft latte lacking in pretty much everything. Kinda tasted like t...

Gaggia ABC - Need info please?

Haven't been over here in ages, but hoping y'all might be able to help me research this. I've got an ABC/Gaggia machine in my garage, looks exactly like the one in this thread. I am looking for information on how to determine value of this antique. It's not in working condition and probably never wi...

Pittsburgh Home Roaster Get Togethers

We've been thinking about having a regularly scheduled Friday evening home roaster/home barista get together to taste their different blends and SOs folks are working with. We can cup, pull shots, whatever. Sort of a regularly scheduled home barista jam. We can even provide a Behmor for anyone who w...

Elektra Nino Grinder

given the guy in the Elektra booth was handing out cards for 1st Line, you'd think they'd have this coordinated, wouldn't you? guess I'd call 1st Line if it was urgent

Elektra Nino Grinder

It was in Minneapolis at the SCAA, again, not promoted heavily. But I got to use it a couple of times in the booth and it's a freaking awesome performer as well as being beautiful to look at (not to mention solid at 70+ lbs.). I pulled a half dozen shots, not a single stray grind and no

School me on espresso machines for farmers market

We've also been looking at outdoor farmer's markets and I popped over here to see about generators. While I'd agree (who wouldn't?) that a couple of GS3s would be ideal, fact is most operators, including us, don't have that kind of cash to invest in a supplemental income stream, at least not at the ...

Intelligentsia Black Cat- different again

BC has apparently changed yet again from February. A little bit lighter. We'd been pulling BC at 200.5-201.5F since forever. The new batches seem to like it a couple degrees cooler, around 198-199F on a Linea. And concord grapes seem to be more pronounced

Iron Chef - Secret Ingredient "Coffee!"

fwiw, I LOVED that episode. Oringer blew Cat Cora out of the water. Cat was the one who used a "Florida" coffee (yes it exists, but gotta think it's low-grown robusta since I don't recall any mountains down there). Whatever one thinks of using the whirly blades and not (to our knowledge) utilizing s...

How to Tame a Messy Mazzer Doser

We went with a generic schnozzola based on the more limited detail from the original pf.net post, which has straight walls instead of a cone. And we didn't use music wire, but 20 gauge picture hanging wire, for the declumping since we had that and I'd already cut the excess from my E string. Still, ...

Is any one familiar with espressodmilan.com?

Saw this topic when searching for something else, but am compelled to note (at this late date) that the principals of Espresso d'Milan are hardly unknowns. Todd-Michael is formerly of WLL and the Pittsburgh area is extremely lucky to have these guys around - in a little over a year they've won a lar...
