What's the story behind your login name?

I just went with a screenname I use for everything else. Commander Ikari is a character from an anime series I'm middlin' fond of (he's a total jerk) and CDR is the navy abbreviation bringing it in under the used-to-be-common 8 character limit for stuff

Forgiving Seattle-area blend?

I don't get over there very often due to the hour-plus drive, but I haven't been in Vivace when they haven't been slammed. The line is always out the door. And when it isn't, it is within about 2 minutes. The magical appearing coffee line is...uncanny. Um...not that this has stopped me from putting ...

Forgiving Seattle-area blend?

I'm across the water and the only thing fresh locally is Caffe Vita's Caffe del Sol (local cafe uses/sells it), which I have found to be more forgiving than most. Of Schomer's two blends, I think the Dolce is easier to work with than the Vita (I also like the taste better). I've had decent luck with...

Scace Thermofilter Temperature Device

Thanks Greg, I really appreciate you taking the time to go through all of this. In particular, thanks for going through the uncertainty calculations for me, that makes considerably more sense than the 'back of the envelope' ones I did. A couple of questions: How do you know if something will follow ...

Macap MXKR 1st day impressions.

I received mine on Friday and started playing with it yesterday. I'm using Caffe Vita's Caffe del Sol and once I got it zero'ed dialed in and altered to my liking I definitely found that the shots were 'brighter' than the ones at the cafe off of what I think was a Rio-badged Robur or Major. Photos a...

Thanks again to all the great resources, education and occasionally entertainment that everyone on this site provides. This community rocks. And hopefully, so will my MXKR when it arrives from Chris'. Woohoo!

Scace Thermofilter Temperature Device

I'm completely with you on the consistency end of the scale, and for home use, you're dead on for the altitude-compensated boiling calibration as well. (Though I'm guessing a few enterprising souls have access to more extreme equipment...and have probably used it. Like Greg for instance. ) *blink* R...

Scace Thermofilter Temperature Device

Wanted to say first that I think the Scace Device is really a cool idea and I'm happy that he came up with it. Being able to consistently measure the temperature across machines and adjustments (even if there appears to be a lot of debate on what it might mean) is awesome. I did have a couple of que...

When did this espresso extraction go blond? [video quiz]

Thanks so much for putting this up. This video answered about half a dozen questions in the first thirty seconds! It also created a bunch more, but those are for me and my machine to figure out
