What is wow'ing you?

Trying a bunch of espresso around LA and two really wowed me: Fruitbomb espresso blend from Aquarela (they do all Brazilian coffees) {link} A washed Colombian from Stereoscope {link} I had both at the shops, both were pulled very well as longer shots

What is wow'ing you?

I've never tried Steady State either, but just ordered some of the Agricola. It's a little finicky as espresso, but when it's dialed in it's really good. And it's surprisingly good as a cappuccino, even though a lot of its flavors seem lighter and more delicate

What is wow'ing you?

Vigilante's Ethiopian Half Caff. I've got some neighbors that usually drink decaff or half caff, so I've been looking for good options. This blend is a 50/50 mix of a decaff Sidama, and a natural Yirg. It's easy to pull as espresso and there's lots of great fruity and nutty flavors. Much more intere...

Espresso Bean Recommendation

My go-to blend on my Gaggia was Caffe Fresco's Ambrosia espresso. It's been years since I've tried it, so I'm not sure it's the same as it used to be, but they always did a very good job. It seemed like a blend that was very forgiving, especially of big changes in brew temp during the shot, which is...

What is wow'ing you?

Just started in on the bags of two Kenyas from "Bolt Coffee" a Wachuri and a Gathiathi. The Gathiathi is my favorite of the two so far. The bag describes it as Plum/Jasmine/Mango, but I'm getting more of an orange-pith/raisin, with a little bit of floral and juicy fruits in the background, along wit...

Best price on coffee subscription?

The best deal I've found from a quality/ratio is a subscription to Counter Culture's blends (they call them "year round offerings"). They normally cost about $15-16 for a 12oz bag, which is already a pretty good deal. They list all the components of the blends, and the individual coffees often sell ...

Cortado help

I'd try the espresso by itself and see how it tastes? I find that for me, drinks with just a little milk do often bring out the sour/bitter flavors. And then with more, the milk's natural sweetness starts to balance things out. So I end up preferring my espressos and cappuccinos without sugar, but l...

Do commercial roasters have a "house taste"?

I definitely think that's true. There's some roasters that seem to consistently have coffees I like, and there's others that people seem to love, but never seem that great to me. Besides just having a style of roasting, it seems like there's probably a few other factors that play a part: * People pr...
