Coffee-Tech Solar Roaster after 3 years commercial use.

Oi oi, back again. Sorry to all those who have DMd me about should I get the Solar or the FZ etc. I'm not going to do the sales agents job for them but have a look at this video I made last year that I just remembered, it's all there. Cheers. {link}

@beanwatcher Sorry for the delayed response, I've not checked back here for a while. You'll get on great with a Solar I'm sure. You can replicate its profile on an FZ by killing the heat and letting it cruise for 3 minutes. Best to read the ET display rather than BT as that's what the Solar reads. B...

Coffee-Tech Solar Roaster after 3 years commercial use.

Update: Now we have a FZ94 on the fleet as we needed to increase capacity but also because I wanted a fully manual machine so I don't lose my skills for roasting using my senses. It gives us loads more options for tweaking, and looks bloody great. Happy times. Oh and I painted the red one black for ...

Hi Chert thanks for the kind words. I think you're right about the air pulses. Basically I think 3kW to roast 2kg is not enough on its own. The air pulses boost the ET to keep the BT RoR moving, without this it looks like the roast would stall. On the graph you can see the ET goes up in

Thanks, glad you like the branding. Prices are pretty standard for UK, but I do keep overheads tight and margins keen. WRT roast times it's largely down to conduction being a big part of the heating here and the slower times that tends to achieve compared to primarily convective heat. If we push the...

Coffee-Tech Solar Roaster after 3 years commercial use.

I feel compelled to write a comprehensive overview of my experience with the Solar, as I feel that the machine is a bit of a mystery to those looking in, given its unconventional control system. There are lots of great threads about specific issues but I wanted to share what I've learned throughout ...

2011 WBC Finals in Bogota

While there may be good consistency between a barista's routines, there is a distinct lack of consistency between judges' scores. There was likely a different judging panel for each round. Different panel, different agendas... Competitors will often raise their game or crumble as the stakes get high...
