Diedrich One Pound Roaster?
Except the thread contains little real information as most of the comments are speculation and projection; and not based upon actual usage of an HR-1

Diedrich One Pound Roaster?
Preferable is a personal choice or value judgement. The HotTop is delivered via UPS or like package delivery service. The Diedrich weighs 85lbs, comes bolted to pallet, and is inside of a plywood box. The HotTop is a volume product. The Diedrich is custom built to your specifications (color, trim, c...

Diedrich One Pound Roaster?
The amperage quote is accurate at 110 Vac. But, if your service provides a more standard 117 to 120 Vac - you'll find the actual draw to be about 12.7-12.9 amps. The difference in use between this roaster and a gas fired roaster is the hysteresis associated with the temperature change due to the ele...

Diedrich Home Sample Roaster; reflections on larger home roasters
And your posts completely ignore the utility of the piece of equipment to concentrate only on pejorative remarks about it and the people who may purchase it. Once again, you're making personal value judgements about the piece of equipment and people who use it with absolutely NO EXPERIENCE with it -...

Diedrich Home Sample Roaster; reflections on larger home roasters
Well Ken, I guess your information MUST be better than mine - I got my information directly from Stephan Diedrich - however, I suppose he could be confused. Then you should try one out before you make unsupported suppositions backed up only by your personal value judgements. I can't argue with that....

Diedrich Home Sample Roaster; reflections on larger home roasters
Not true. Martin Diedrich is the one who had the coffee shops, etc. Stephan Diedrich has always been in the roaster business. Really bad analogy. A model train is a miniature of a real train, made for the express purpose of entertainment. While the Diedrich is a small roaster, it produces the exact ...

Experience great professional coffees before you start home roasting
I guess you missed all the really big smiley emoticons I wanted to put in my answer specifically for people like you. And, I do home roast so you're wrong in your assumption. In fact I've been to roasting schools and seminars, have used professional roasting equipment, and have done coffee profile d...

Have you heard of "Panama Esmeralda Especial?"
None of your vote items are correct. The record breaking coffee was from the first picking and was hand sorted for the Best of Panama auction. All of the first picking / hand sorted coffee (6 bags) was purchased by a buying group that included Sweet Marias, Intelligentsia, etc. The further offering ...

Experience great professional coffees before you start home roasting
Based upon what statistics? If it's all about what you "feel" as opposed to facts, then certainly no one can argue with you. I only personally know two people who roast coffee at home - both are dedicated, have the equipment, and spend the time to learn how to roast properly. More than that, what is...

Home Roaster Suggestions
I own a HotTop and the Diedrich HR-1 home roaster. There is NO comparison that can be made between the two. The Diedrich takes a lot more work (YOU have to drive the roaster for the entire roast time to get the final roast profile) - but, that's exactly what makes it so much better than the HotTop
