Finally "plumbed in" La Marzocco Linea Mini with Caffewerks setup

After many years filling up the reservoir, I might have to do this too. I'm interested in your experience with this setup

Blind shaker better than WDT??

Hi Shotclock, just curious, what is your baseline? Are you normally grinding directly into the brew cone? Or do you normally grind into a dosing cup but don't shake it? If shaking is the only difference then could you get a similar effect by shaking in any vessel, like a small milk steaming pitcher?

Kafatek Monolith Conical has gone through a major change...

I'm using vst-18 and this EPNW-HQ14 {link} I use 70/30 water and I pre infuse for 6sec. I grind to portafilter and then WDT. The shots pull pretty evenly. I pulled a lot of shots this AM and found that the HQ basket consistently extracts 1-3% less than the VST for similar params of shots. With the M...

Kafatek Monolith Conical has gone through a major change...

I just tried this at 16->32 to serve as a comparison between two baskets because you mentioned the EPNW-HQ basket and 16g, so i was trying to see how the HQ basket would fare against my normal VST basket. I think the shots i pulled were just under-extracted not under-temperature. I tend to normally ...

Kafatek Monolith Conical has gone through a major change...

Hi John, Just tried this experiment. Coffee = B&W The Natural (I'm calling this a medium roast) (a) 16g in 14g EPNW HQ basket 32 out in about 30s, grinding around 17.4 (b) 16g in VST-18 grind adjusted finer to 16.6 33 out in 27s Both pours are roughly similar in terms of visual quality. Fairly

Kafatek Monolith Conical has gone through a major change...

i've used both VST and IMS Professional but i was getting a bit lower extraction and a bit more tart taste with IMS so i moved back to VST. Yes the IMS was easier to work with

Kafatek Monolith Conical has gone through a major change...

I got mine recently too. I have been impressed with the taste, it's easy to dial in and there's an overwhelming sense of the shots tasting 'smooth'. I also find that on a range of light to medium, it seems to handle the range very well. Have been using 70rpm for light and 120 for medium. One thing

Blind shaker better than WDT??

FWIW when I had a Versalab M3, I would grind direct to portafilter and then shake to settle and pours tended to be picture perfect, like amazingly even across the basket, consistently more even than pretty much any grinder / distribution combo [that i've had] since. The M3 distributed naturally very...

KafaTek MAX2 SSW vs. KafaTek MC5 vs. Versalab M4

Well I got the MC6 and although it's only day 2, it's been great so far. It's a bit like an easy button for most of the coffee I've tried. And not finicky vs my lab sweet 80mm
