Equations and boiler pressure

It's been a while since I've tuned any PID systems, but maybe this is helpful. As I recall, P is somewhat arbitrary. Pick a P that is conveniently fast to do what you want. Integral value depends on the behavior of the device. Insufficient I will have oscillation about the setpoint. This is called u...

Nuova Simonelli single lever espresso machine

Pretty interesting shop you have there. Did you shoot those photos? Does that plane fly? Anyway, I can't answer your question, although I'm surprised that your machine worked perfectly after 30 years of storage. The North American distributor for Nuova Simonelli is Nuova Distribution, in Ferndale Wa...

Unknown espresso machine

Plenty of parts missing on the outside. Is there no manufacturer's plate with information on it? I would not bother with it. -Greg

Argon for Coffee Storage

Well air is 78% nitrogen. Argon is pretty pricey. Nitrogen is less so. I sorta don't like putting CO2 into the atmosphere. All schemes require infrastructure (regulator, sealing scheme etc.). I've always just frozen my coffee. -Greg

Equations and boiler pressure

In theory it's instantaneous, but there is probably some mixing in the boiler that adds time but I think any added time is negligible and certainly no reason to discard temperature as a means of controlling pressure in this application. -Greg

Equations and boiler pressure

Hey there: I should mention that you won't know temperature until you are above atmospheric pressure boiling point AND all vapor in the steam boiler is water. You'll have to be above atmospheric pressure boiling point because otherwise you won't have a mechanism to drive out the non-water gasses. Th...

Equations and boiler pressure

Can you mention what kind of machine, and show us a picture of the current pressurestat location on the boiler? Since liquid in the steam boiler is where you want the probe, I'm wondering if there isn't a fitting on top of the steam boiler than can accommodate, and if not, can something be moved to ...

Equations and boiler pressure

Hi there: It's a whole lot cheaper and easier to use a thermocouple probe to measure the temperature inside your steam boiler than to use a pressure gauge. You were on the right track that you're looking for temperature corresponding to the steam pressure that you want. Most commercial espresso mach...
