La Marzocco Swan
One might think that a constant weight of beans in the hopper is required. And maybe it isn't. Discovering that sensitivity is a simple experiment. Scott Guglielmino, of La Marzocco told me what they found for dosing consistency and I have some preliminary data that supports it. I'm not going to pos...

La Marzocco Swan
Dosing adjustability of the outer burr is in steps of 0.1 revolutions, so the weight equivalent least count in dosing is 0.123 gms (20 gms / 16.25 rotations) and positional accuracy of the burr at that value depends on the resolution of the encoder. If the encoder is only 100 steps per revolution, t...

La Marzocco Swan
Well it seems that I have the first La Marzocco Swan grinder in the USA. IMO the Swan is an important advancement in espresso grinders, addressing key grinding issues with very smart engineering solutions. Grinds retention issues due to static charge are solved by passing ground coffee through an el...

Shot inconsistencies with SSP Cast LS
I had the same issue with mine. I thought my issues were related to the amount of spring pressure pushing the stationary burr against the adjuster on my grinder, which is a Titus Nautilus. I don't think my Nautilus was designed with this burrset in mind as the burrset wasn't available when the grind...

La Marzocco Swan grinder released
I'm told that mine is the first Swan order received by LM USA. I should be able to answer a lot of questions on this grinder in a couple of weeks. This will be my first conical in a while. I have an EK43, WW EG-1 with core burrset and a Titus Nautilus with HU burrset

La Marzocco Swan grinder released
The Swan has a straight through flow path, with rotating outer burr and stationary inner burr. There's an AC voltage field that dissipates static charge in the ground coffee and the claim from La Marzocco is that retention is zero. As I mentioned, I was given a tour of a prototype of the Swan severa...

La Marzocco Swan grinder released
Hi there: Where is the 10-15 gm prior to getting a fresh dose value from? Is that a desire from people or a product claim for the Swan. I went through the videos currently on You tube and didn't hear of such a value. All discussion was on zero retention, unless I missed something. -Greg

The claim that perfect grinder alignment is insignificant
Depends on the grinder and burr type - flat or conical. Flat burrsets are pretty insensitive to axial misalignment and axial runout - the conditions where the rotational axis of the rotating burr is not concentric with the center axis of the stationary burr, or where the two axes may or may not be c...
