18AWG, 16AWG, or 14AWG for Grinder

I concur 18 AWG is sufficient for your use even with possible higher inrush current than what is stated for the grinder. Inrush only lasts a few milliseconds so no cable heating will occur due to that. The 10 A ampacity number quoted earlier is also based on continuous usage (meaning over 3 hours co...

I'd recommend a tvss receptical like this: {link} Granted you may need to hire an electrician if you are not yourself qualified to install, or according to local requirements

Rancilio Silvia Making Harsh Tasting Espresso

The change in pitch of the pump is due to the PID switching on/off the heating element which causes a dip in voltage at the pump. If you were to flick the steam switch on you wouldn't hear the change in pitch as the voltage at the pump would remain constant. The change in voltage at the pump is likely

Baratza Sette burr replacement

I do not believe the ring burr itself is user replaceable as you stated. The SA3 assembly consisting of the motor, gearbox, and ring burr is user replaceable (it's mounted on top of the grinder with four bolts) but I'm not aware of the cost as every grinder is still under warranty. As was shown abov...

Baratza Settes that die early?

If you're not supremely confident with electronics/motors I'd recommend leaving the troubleshooting/fixing up to professionals as there is a risk of being injured otherwise. That said... Remove the lower burr carrier and use a tool to rotate the ring burr. It's not easy due to a 19:1 gearbox. Be awa...

To followup to my post, you can see the parts diagram of the Sette 270 here: {link} They replace part SA3 as a single unit

Baratza Settes that die early?

Yes, they are. The dc motor, gearbox, and ring burr are replaced as a single unit. You now have a new ring burr and your original cone burr which in part explains the change in grind shim and setting. My 270W motor was replaced by Baratza due to a broken commutator at about 5 or so months. As I

Baratza Sette - End User Reports

The DC motor's commutator likely broke a contact so there are one or more dead spots (poles) in the motor. Customer support will replace the motor and gearbox assembly which will solve the issue. Apparently, it's a known motor supplier issue which has been fixed

Baratza Sette - End User Reports

I can speak to using a 20-gram VST basket with the -W but I don't have experience with the 18-gram version. I get 18.9 grams of Seattle Coffee Works' Space, their SO, or Caffe Ladro's Ladro beans into a 20-gram VST without spillage. To do 20g into my 20g basket I have to pause halfway through grindi...

Baratza Sette - End User Reports

I haven't noticed a difference in dosing accuracy with varying bean load on the -W. I always get somewhere between 0.0-0.2g from target. My ritual is to put roughly enough in the hopper for the day because I like keeping my beans in hermetic glass jar. This morning my last grind session was +0.1g an...
