Breville BES870XL - short shot time & not enough espresso ??
One option (I'm not necessarily suggesting this, just pointing it out) is you could return that one, and get the Breville Infuser. It's basically the same machine you have now, but with no built-in grinder, and a bit cheaper. At very least, it might give you another return window worth of time to co...

Breville BES870XL - short shot time & not enough espresso ??
Two thoughts - First, just to be sure, try stirring your shot with a spoon before you taste it. The very top of the shot will often be more bitter than the rest - but if you stir it, you might be pleasantly surprised at the different. And second, try going to one of your local shops

Breville BES870XL - short shot time & not enough espresso ??
A suggestion - forget everything you've read about 2 oz being a "double shot". And everything else having to do with ounces of output. Weigh your output - every time. Put a scale under your cup, and brew into the cup. When you get to the ratio you want (e.g. 34g out, for 17g in), stop the shot then

My experience with buying espresso in Portugal and Spain and Greece ....
At risk of playing the devil's advocate , not all machines require a flush for temperature-related reasons. Saturated groups, for example

Slayer dose & yield recipes
Ah, ok. Just for reference, here's a video showing the ramp from zero to full pressure at the group on my MP: {video}So it seems like somewhere around 2.5 seconds to get to 9 bar. This is against a steel backflush blank, dry, so the time to fill up the space in the PF is included here. That seems st...

Moved recently in Colorado, wondering about my water
Thanks - this is helpful! It occurred to me that while I might get water from any of three sources, or a blend of the three, but I'm not going to see the worst case extremes in each of the different variables all at one time. So for example, I'm not going to see water with the lowest

Moved recently in Colorado, wondering about my water
Well, a few things - - I've been using Third Wave Water mixed with distilled for the last year; it's fine, albeit the total cost of water comes to around $2.25/gal, which is somewhat annoying. It's also a bit of a hassle. - The Olancha/distilled mix sounds like it would work (I still have to verify I

Slayer dose & yield recipes
Sorry for butting in, as I have no dog in this hunt as they say...but what happens if you just move the paddle on the Slayer all the way to the full brew position immediately, without stopping in the middle pre-brew position? Does it not just immediately ramp pressure as fast as the 0.7mm gicleur wi...

Moved recently in Colorado, wondering about my water
You know, that gives me an idea. Pat, what do you think about mixing my tap water with distilled? If I mixed at, say, a 4:1 ratio (tap:distilled), it seems like it would drop my hardness and chlorides both to about 80% of their existing values. Presumably alkalinity would also drop to 80%, which wou...
