Cyclone Chaff Collector and Fan Setup -Huky 500

Looks good! The one thing that has always bothered me about the Huky setup is the way it feels cobbled together. I understand the history from J to T, single fan to dual fan, etc., but it just feels strange to have an 8" pancake fan necked down to less than 2". Are any of your future fan

Prismo dimensions

Could someone with a Prismo and calipers take dimensions for me? I want to know the distance in millimeters between any two parallel faces of the 12-sided bottom. I want to see if I can 3D print a wrench to help loosen it when I'm done brewing. I have calipers at home and my Prismo is at work, which...

Hard-Wiring Artisan Event Buttons

I guess it has been a while, hasn't it?! I ran a test roast or two and came up with a few issues: 1) I'm still battling a simple short somewhere in the matrix that basically causes three different keys to input the same value. It seems to happen when I try to pack everything into the case and

Home roasters, not small business owners: Do you sell or give away coffee?

Yes to both, plus bartering. Price changes based on the agreements and volumes we've set up, but it's all well under specialty retail pricing. (we're only talking about four "customers" here) I'm not necessarily making money, but I basically get to drink coffee for free

Roasting Variability (using a Huky)

There are three probe locations on the Huky: in the bean mass, inside the drum but outside of the bean mass, and the 'MET' probe at the top of the roaster - inside the housing, but not in the exhaust flow. It measures the environment temp outside the drum, and gives an idea of the max temp inside th...

Roasting Variability (using a Huky)

I have probes at all three locations. I know in the back of my mind that this is all a question of heat transfer, and how rapid that transfer is across the gradient, but I haven't made the jump to driving my roasts according to MET yet. I observe it, and I'm starting to think about when MET should be

Roasting Variability (using a Huky)

That's longer than I had expected, but not entirely unreasonable, I suppose. What's your gas setting when pre-heating? True. In this instance, I got 6 relatively similar roasts and mixed them all together. I'm canceling out the best, but also canceling out the worst roast as well, and end up with a ...

Bonavita kettle temperature error

My third Bonavita kettle just bit the dust this morning - it's the 1.7l gooseneck. I first had this problem with the 1l gooseneck probably 5-6 years ago, and Bonavita customer service acted like I was crazy, saying they've never seen this issue before (despite me sending video of the behavior). My w...

Roasting Variability (using a Huky)

Could be. I keep gas on to keep the environment warm, but cut the fan. The Huky is only a few pounds of metal. If I did a gas off/fan off soak for any length of time at the beginning of the roast, the temp would drop so low as to basically be unrecoverable. I'm essentially causing the drum to
