Need general advice on water treatment

Regarding the consistency of Crystal Geyser- this is not necessarily true. Several months ago I purchased a case of water from Big Lots. I thought I had gotten a bargain. When I got it home and opened the box, I checked the bottles and noticed for the first time that the source was not from Olancha ...

Why isn't there an easy to find "espresso wiki"?

This forum and others are a great resource of information about espresso. I have learned so much reading them. But often it is hard to find anything specific without spending hours searching and reading, searching and reading. Often most of the posts are 'insider' comments. Sometimes I will remember...

I will be travelling to Chicago later this month. Besides Intelligentsia and Metropolis, are there any good cafes worth visiting in the Chicago area? Roasters?

E61 Group Espresso Machine: Detailed Interior Schematics

I lost the model in a hard drive crash, so I cannot give you much detail. The heat loss from the model is about 15 watts, which did not include radiation loss. I have some information on a spreadsheet, if you are interested. -Bruce

How does high altitude affect brewing?

I cannot offer any suggestions, but I recently had a very good espresso at a cafe in Mammoth Lakes, CA (7800 ft). If someone is pulling a decent shot in a production environment, you can surely do it at home. Wish I had the name of the place- you might try calling the visitors bureau. It was not the...

E61 Thermal Analysis Questions

It took me awhile to figure out what you guys have been talking about. I have a single boiler machine (Zaffiro). I was thinking that temperature of the group should be as close as possible to the water temperature in the boiler. It seems obvious that you would want to add insulation in this case. A ...

E61 Thermal Analysis Questions

Rfc, HB, Thanks for the reply. Yes, I really do need a couple of doubles to get going in the morning. Some comments/clarification: I used a water temperature of 200F within the thermosyphon chamber, with the water being stagnant. This gives a 2.5 F difference between the water and the metal surface....

E61 Thermal Analysis Questions

I completed a simple steady state thermal analysis of the E61 , which I posted on "Lino's schematic thread". The results show about a 10 degree F delta from the end of the assembly to the thermo siphon cavity. It also shows a small temperature difference from one side of the shower screen to the oth...
