Lance Hedrick and other coffee influencers

I subscribe to two coffee influencers: James Hoffmann and Lance Hedrick. The other popular coffee Youtubers strike me like they could just as easily be reviewing digital cameras or smart watches. Well, I also subscribe to Emilee Byrant, because she is awesome

Effect of coffee preparation method on mortality and cardiovascular disease risk

A decade ago my cholesterol levels began to approach the high end of normal, so I changed my diet. My total cholesterol levels have been around 130 ever since then (no statins). The research on cholesterol levels suggests that if you can keep you total cholesterol below 150, the risk of heart attack...

Mail-order Coffee and COVID-19

The packaging, not the beans are likely the biggest risk. Use some Lysol wipes to wipe down the box the coffee arrives in, and carefully wipe down each bag of coffee. I can't imagine the beans themselves being a likely source for transmission

Cafelat Robot User Experience

I was surprised as well. She had put the screen in upside down, but apart from that she reported that the pull was unusually easy. So she apparently did not apply much force, and she is quite petite. The screen was pretty badly bent. I bent the screen back as best I could with a pair of pliers. It

Cafelat Robot User Experience

Absolutely loving my Robot. It is probably the best espresso machine I have ever owned (which includes an Elektra Semiautomatica, Ponte Vecchio Export, and Expobar Brewtus II). I have purchased a Bellman stovetop steamer for my wife's morning cappuccino, and together with my Vario, the combination i...

Cafelat Robot User Experience

I like to see my pours while I am getting to know the Robot, so I position my phone in that location for most shots. That video is about average, with some pours looking a little more even, and others looking not as good. The machine is incredibly forgiving, as all my shots have been extremely tasty...

Cafelat Robot User Experience

I picked up a Cafelat Robot at iDrinkcoffee, and after a week of use I can confidently say that I really like it. I've been making espresso for many years, most recently with an Elektra Semiautomatica. I decided to go with the polished aluminum model without the pressure gauge. After watching Paul b...

Descaling Elektra Semiautomatica boiler

Hi Anthony - This is not the same issue that I am having. The solenoid that controls whether the pump pushes water through the brew group or into the boiler is sticking on my machine. I suspect that scale from the boiler is falling into the solenoid. Your issue sounds like water is not flowing to ei...

Descaling Elektra Semiautomatica boiler

The solenoid controlling the flow of water to the boiler or the brew path keeps failing in my Semiautomatica, and I have come to realize that it is failing because it keeps getting blocked with scale (that I assume is coming from the boiler). Can anyone recommend a good strategy to descale the boile...
