Leftist Espresso from Gimme Coffee

I had it about a year ago at their shop on Mott Street, and then brought a bag home. I remember enjoying it and getting great shots right away, and it was reasonably priced compared to many other coffees I've bought from pro roasters. I'd definitely buy some more if I hadn't just ordered some from K...

Frothing with/without gaggia steam wands ..

I have been able to get great microfoam every time by moving the attachment's o-ring one more "notch" towards the tip (the end that doesn't attach to the chrome tubing). If you remove the long sleeve part of the attachment, you'll see an o-ring in there and it's sitting within a rounded "notch" - th...

Kitchen remodel questions

I have used a siphon pump to drain the boiler or other tank with great results, and they sell them at most hardware stores for a few dollars (even places such as Harbor Freight sell them). There are usually two lengths of flexible tubing with a squeeze bulb or some other device between them to pump ...

Considering used but modified Cimbali Junior grinder

The trap door isn't anything you necessarily need - it's there to act like a gate to prevent beans from feeding into the burrs. With some grinders that also have this feature, you can remove the hopper with beans still in it if you close the gate, but the Junior has a few screws that secure the hopp...

E61 thermocouple adapter for Expobar Office Control

The pictures in the last post are exactly how my recent Marcuzzi/Expobar Office Control looks, and I bet the M6 screw is a more recent addition. I have been trying to add a thermocouple to mine without much luck drilling a perfectly-centered hole all the way through an M6 bolt (I don't have any fanc...

Problems with used Cimbali Junior D

I'd personally try to take as much of it apart as possible to descale the water paths and boiler, but if not, at least a good descaling would be a good start. I had a few minor issues with mine that were solved by tightening or cleaning some of the parts. Luckily it worked perfectly after just repla...

Pasquini / La Cimbali Jr Restoration

The flexible tube that goes into the top center of the dosing chamber should be attached to the overpressure valve (OPV) just above the rear center of the drip tray

Best Espresso Shot and Beans in NYC?

Best shot I had was at Cafe Grumpy at the Chelsea location from their Cyncra (really friendly people working there, too)...next best was probably at Ninth Street in the Chelsea Market. Best beans to me were from Gimme in Little Italy - Leftist Blend. It was great to bring some home and the price was...

Cimbali Junior blowing steam

How old is your Junior? Is the steam venting more towards the front (where the controls are), or more toward the rear? My Junior is an older model that has a vacuum breaker above the water level sight glass, and it's possible that they can have issues that prevent them from sealing up. They have an ...

La Cimbali Junior Grinder Mod - Hopper Throat Extension

Trimming the finger guard sounds like a nice easy way to go - mine didn't have one when I bought it, so I had to go with something else. I guess whatever works, the concept is pretty similar to create a tube which allows the beans to go down into the burrs without getting stuck on the "ledge" from
