Does anyone roast by hand?

How do you use cupping to improve roasts?

Well you don't cup coffee for roast indicators? You drink coffee for roast indicators. Make a pot or pour over and taste it to see what adjustments should be attempted with your roaster. As Dave says let the coffee tell you. Eliminate as many variables as you can. cupping involves some visuals, arom...

Best home roaster for small batch roasting?

So Bold Java's, Dr. Gary, and Turtle advice is to buy a production roaster, lose your shirt in the process and then get in so deep into the mud that you have to live with your decision? (I know at least two of them own a certain production roaster...;D )....A couple of real pals you are here. Do you...

Best home roaster for small batch roasting?

$5/lb profit (average) from cost of greens + energy usage x150lbs = $750/ year? Buy a 1k or less and you could definitely swing your time 5-10 hours and make that money back in about a year in some cases. That would be a big mistake to buy a 2k unit. How are you figuring the numbers Dave?

Need help choosing roaster

I understand but the problem is still the same. Huky vs. Sonofresco is still goofy. Debating which "commercial" or semi commercial roaster on a "home" roaster forum is getting funny. Sonofresco vs Drum Roaster

Hi FotonDrv, Yes you could get smells depending on your venting and a nice visual of the entire roast process, you can intercept and stop the roast and enter the cooling phase at anytime by switching off the Gas. I live in a Mild climate (San Diego) so I don't vent outside I just wheel my machine ou...

Sonofresco vs Drum Roaster

No problem on the clarification, I forgot to add always have an appropriate fire extinguisher regardless of roaster (hottop, gene cafe, etc.) and make sure your home/renters insurance is aware you have a commercial roaster in operation on your property. In most cases That's not a good conversation i...

Sonofresco vs Drum Roaster

Yeah same here on go with what you have experience with stuff, Sonofresco's seem like a better deal to me still I know I am the lone Sonofresco guy but I could buy 2-3 used sonofresco's for the cheapest option of the drum roasters.I would bet I could get repeatable roasts much easier as well since I...
