Niche Zero grinder

My black Niche came on Wednesday, five days after ordering and a day ahead of schedule. Looks really small compared with my Mazzer Major. I wasn't sure about the aesthetics, but my wife, who thinks I go way overboard with espresso and who only just tolerates my equipment taking up counter-space, tho...

Brew temperature too low

Hi, measuring the temp. in the cup isn't going to tell you that much about the actual brew temp. By the time the water gets to the cup it has been cooled by the portafilter, the air while running into the cup and the cup itself. On my fully heated Bezzera Strega with inserted bottomless portafilter ...

Get a PID for my Rancilio Silvia or simply get a new espresso machine?

I started off with a Silvia as well. It didn't take long though before I got fed up with temperature surfing and added an Auber PID. But switching between brew and steaming temp was still a pain as I drink a lot of milk drinks. So I upgraded to a Strega and have been happy since. If you have stuck

Mazzer Major extraction problems

Hi, I have a Mazzer major, bought second hand and converted to single-doser. I have had no problems with clumping so far. I bought new burrs for it when I got it. Assessing the burrs by sight is difficult, but if it was formerly used in a home-setting and the grinder is not too old they should still...

Prepping wife's espresso ahead of time

I wouldn't drink cappuccino made with a shot that has been standing around for 2 hours if you paid me . 2 hour old grinds will definitely lose flavor but might still be drinkable

Prepping wife's espresso ahead of time

This would be my method as well, except I would prep the basket and tamp and then leave the tamper standing on the puck to seal it. She then just has to drop the basket into the portafilter and can go

Mazzer Major - Burr alignment issues [Update (1/12/17): Proposed mechanism/fix]

The whirring could be caused by bits of beans and grinds left in the chamber. When you tighten the grind and then loosen it up again you might be cleaning out the chamber. I don't think your changing the alignment by grinding a batch of beans after this maneuver. The best way to check the alignment ...

Moka pot leaking between midsection - brand new!

To me too the heap of coffee grounds in the filter basket looks a bit big and I would take the back of a knife or spoon-handle to sweep the excess grounds level with the rim. But I once bought a new quality moka pot that leaked in the same place independent of grind size, heat or dose. I sent
