Grinders, grinders, grinders.... what's wrong with me?
The interesting thing is... what do people who think that by paying twice or triple the amount of a price of a good and solid espresso grinder think that they will get. Is it really the end of the road? Obviously they will have to to tell themselves (and their wives/husbands) that the price differen...

Grinders, grinders, grinders.... what's wrong with me?
I guess certain hobbies appeal to certain type of people. For example high end audio, photographic equipment, music gear, and obviously coffee gear among many other things like bicycles and some other forms of transportation or even camping gear or... (fill in your own obsession). If this person typ...

James Hoffmann review of espresso machines under £1500 [VIDEO]
Actually that has nothing to do with being a HX. I've got a Rocket HX that can be plumbed in and so can all the commercial HX's found in cafes. If a HX has a rotary pump then it can be plumbed. If it - or a double boiler for that matter - has a vibratory pump then it

James Hoffmann review of espresso machines under £1500 [VIDEO]
I have also lowered my Rocket's pressure down to 8 bars years ago and haven't still found any reason to go back. If something I might try to lower it 1-2 bars more for the sake of an experiment. I tend to use mostly medium or light-medium roasts and stay far from dark roasts. My Caravel most likely ...

Without not knowing what exact coffee beans you use, there is not much more people can advice you. Coffee roasters have very different approaches to their roasts, so it may be the beans or it may not. Maybe you could ask also from the forum subgroup "Coffees" if people from your area know how to dea...

Karim, I hope you're getting better coffee by now. If not yet, you've been given some good points by fellow home baristas, like measuring the temperature. It is quite possible that it is off. It wouldn't be the first time ever. And trying new beans from a different roaster might be a really good ide...

Oh and hey Karim, you do have a precision scale that can weight 0,1g difference, right? It is essential!

Just a note that if you decrease the dose you will extract less. Less coffee in the filter means less resistance and less extraction time. It should read dose more. Sometimes to extract more you'll have to decrease the dose AND grind finer - especially with light roast beans. But yes, for now we sho...

Regarding prepping you should look in to WDT. It's a quite easy technique and many espresso enthusiasts use it to get better extractions. Going to 16.5 or 17.5g will change the dose. Only half of what going to next whole gram would do. One of your problems is that your grinder seems to have way too ...

Ok, there was a good point about prepping the coffee in the filter properly. Without a video about how you do it, we can only hope it should be ok. You've heard of WDT, right? BUT, if the grind size 2 is much better and grind size 1 is bitter, then we should know that the answer lies somewhere
