Washington Roasters

My favorite Seattle roaster is Lighthouse Roasters on Phinney Ridge. ({link}) Small cafe, cozy atmosphere with microbatch coffee roasted daily, right in the middle of the room. Darker than most these days but full of flavor and finesse. Still get the majority of my beans from them, even after leavin...

Kaffebox.no Advent Calendar coffee samplers

The better half of our operation proved it once again this season with a great gift: she saw an ad in the NYT for a advent calendar coffee sampler series from Kaffebox.no and surprised the hell out me with it last week. It's a new coffee every day for the 24 day advent - 50g per day - and the

Single Cup Brewing in a Chemex

Depends on the brewer material (heat capacity), how well it's pre-warmed, grind and the roast level of the beans probably more than the specific brew method, although of these three the V60 filters more quickly than the other two. I enjoy med/darker roasts (FC+) and so routinely brew with 185 - 190F...

The Automatica (Kickstarter)

Either move the pour or move the coffee. i like the idea of trying something new by moving the coffee - in particular by rotating the brewer - but tilting a brewkettle to effect a pour? Seems kinda cheesy. Who cares if it's a carafe - just make a spigot that sits over the brew bed and pours water wh...

Hario USA is going to those tabbed V60 filters for 100 packs

Just wanted to note that I've been using the "natural" versions of the original, non-tabbed V02 Hario filters for a while now and they perform just like the non-tabbed white filters. I'm not generally a fan of unbleached filters (no matter how hard I pre-rinse Chemex natural filters, I can always ta...

I could never get great coffee from mine, either - admittedly a bit off topic but hence my question. Thanks
