New home roaster Kaffelogic Nano 7
I am. I have no experience using an ikawa, but regularly receive samples from importers that are roasted on an ikawa. All are clean and complex with good sweetness and developed at a light/ cupping degree. I have no trouble getting roasts on the kaffelogic to match very closely or be indistinguishab...

New home roaster Kaffelogic Nano 7
I got one of the first production roasters and got to demo one of the prototypes. There is a profile software you can download and with a usb stick can be easily uploaded into the roaster. You can draw the curve shape and roast time, how much fan and heating you like. It follows the reference curve ...

Sudden inconsistent dosing with Mahlkonig K30 Vario
Is your bean hopper emptied out at night and a fresh bag opened first thing? On hot, dry days we notice a much bigger change in dosing and flow characteristics when adding a fresh bag of beans to the hopper. I speculate that the beans fresh from the bag (same batch) are in a perfectly sealed cool, d...

Sudden inconsistent dosing with Mahlkonig K30 Vario
I use two k30s in my roastery and it sounds like I have the exact same problems. I assumed ours was due to environmental factors. large store with lots of windows, cool nights, then sun, + customers and increasing usuage and temperatures. We weigh all doses as shots and often see the variation you d...

Mahlkönig K30 Vario Burrs Jamming
Yeah I meant the portafilter button. From memory my k30s go down to .1 second, and I'm sure they are each from different generations. The one I use for black espresso only has the older design with the more clumpy chute, and has the older software, which seems to not suffer from the burr jam issue w...

Mahlkönig K30 Vario Burrs Jamming
I run two k30s in my roastery and our main one for milk based drinks often seizes up a couple of times a day. I was concerned initially, but either coarsening the grind or pulsing the on/off always gets it going again. I thought it was just mine doing it

What's Your Charge Temperature?
I would think that meeting preset temperatures by defining the time to reach them would depend greatly on your roasters heat transfer ability. Wouldn't a hot air roaster or more convection based roaster have more even and efficient heat transfer than a solid drum roaster? I design my roast profiles ...

Brewista Scale Observations
I liked the Brewista right out of the box, I thought it would be perfect for my shop, however, after using it in a commercial setting for a month has highlighted several issues. The auto tare and timer (mode1) has glitches and sometimes won't auto start and even occasionally will reset during pourin...

Post First Crack ROR drop
I roast on a 5kg probatone, one of the newer models, and run dual TC into artisan, I notice the delta ET dive going into the first crack 5-10 seconds before the BT ROR begins to show any decrease. This allows me to increase the heat to maintain a decreasing ROR. I'll post a roast graph when I'm infr...
