Coffee transparency-reporting by roasters - comparing two roasters' green beans costs
For the record, the term "virtue signaling" is used to describe one that talks the talk, but does not walk the walk. Personally, I couldn't care less what anyone says, it's only what they do that matters to me. People that "do", rarely need to say so

Coffee transparency-reporting by roasters - comparing two roasters' green beans costs
Website is pretty deceiving. It makes it sound like they buy directly from the farm. Looks like they buy from importers like Onyx. Maybe they simply ask their importer how much they pay to the farm and simply multiply it by 5. {image}

Coffee transparency-reporting by roasters - comparing two roasters' green beans costs
Information maybe. How much a vendor pays for their cost of goods sold? Really? Do you do that with tomatoes? Do you ask a restaurant how much they pay for their salmon? With roasters it's almost meaningless because you have no idea what other costs go into their final pricing. Maybe they spend an h...

Coffee transparency-reporting by roasters - comparing two roasters' green beans costs
Which reinforces the point that trying to appear transparent in most cases is nothing more than virtue signaling

Worka Chelbessa, by George Howell, in Light and Medium Roasts
For illustrative purposes, here is a vid of the light roast version of this coffee next to one of my roasts of a washed Ethiopia. My normal dose is 15.5g and the grind is set to accommodate that. Both doses in this vid were 14.5g which makes my coffee run very fast. By the glory of the lever espresso

Worka Chelbessa, by George Howell, in Light and Medium Roasts
Ah-ha, I forgot that. My reason for getting these coffees is not so much analyzing the coffee, but to see how George goes about things. I wanted to see how he packages his coffee and how he rates his roast levels. I thought 2 different roasts of the same coffee could be telling. But since this

Worka Chelbessa, by George Howell, in Light and Medium Roasts
I made quick Americano with the medium roast. At my normal grind setting on my Monolith MC4 it absolutely choked my Londinium. I had the turn the grind setting almost 120* and it still ran very slow. I'll try again in the morning with an espresso and a coarser grind. I won't get a chance to measure ...

Worka Chelbessa, by George Howell, in Light and Medium Roasts
I have a bag of each waiting for me in my mailbox. I'm curious to measure the roast level and taste George's coffee. Never had any before
