RDT causing channeling?
Interesting Chris, Maybe I should move to Florida to fix the channeling! It makes no sense to me either why RDT would cause it but it is the variable that seems to "cause" channeling. Haven't taken the Londinium apart and cleaned it in a while will do so and see if it changes things. Steve

I have been struggling with channeling and have tried multiple combs to redistribute. Sometimes that gives a great shot. Lately I've been using the BH Au...

Cupping Your Roast - Grind Size
Kruve sifters lists grind sizes and for SCA cupping the grind size is between 500 -1200 microns. If you have Kruve sifting set you can dial it in to around 800-900 and in the hunt. they sell a "Brewler" which is a fairly inexpensive grind size / whole bean size measuring stick that is pretty handy.

What causes flick after drying, before 1st crack?
I'm not sure ... but I've noticed it also. I decrease my flame by a bit on my roaster as my first reduction in heat about 30 - 45 seconds before drying (300 deg f for me) and seems to avoid it. Some coffees are more likely to do this but haven't found a pattern. I asked

I have taken some classes from Willem Boot and remember his discussion of this cleaner .. know he has a client in downtown LA and no complaints from the neighborhood around his roaster ... don't know the scale or the price but uses water to clean the air. {link} Steve
